I can't speak for other girls but I am open and liberal to a certain extent in person too....but it really depends on who I am talking to. I cant be that way with everyone.
Age plays a factor in this as well...the older you get the more comfortable you are in your own skin....the more comfortable/confident you are with yourself the more likely you are to discuss such "taboos".

Aray haan na, they are taboo in desi and Muslim culture , I am not lying , ask anybody.
I have seen Hafiz , Mufti, Mullah taking part in these kind of discussion with lot of vigor and enthusiasm so may be you are right they are taboo in front of the family but not taboo in front of others.
