WHY go for replicas?

Hey
i really want to know what is the reason women want to go for replicated clothes of famous designers? If you can afford the originals, by all means go for the real thing but trying to pass off your copied dress as originals is beyond my understanding.

I myself run a design house and I get dozens of requests asking for a bunto or hsy etc jora replicated.. And it’s not even like they have meager budgets. Why would you want to spend 2-3 lacs on a “replica” when you can get a decent original designer dress that may not be not scream “HIGH END DESIGNER” but will be beautiful nonetheless.

Oh and just a heads up.. You can ALWAYS tell if you’re pulling off a original or a replica no matter how good your copy is…

Love xx

Re: WHY go for replicas?

I think there's a difference between wearing a replica because you like the look of an outfit you couldn't otherwise afford vs pawning off a replica as an original. There's a few Bunto designs that I would love to wear but alas, I can't afford them. If I could get someone legit make a good replica for a little less, than yes, I'll go for it. But yeah, trying to pass it off as an original is dumb and usually very obvious.

^ exactly

Re: WHY go for replicas?

In most cases, you have your heart set on a gorgeous outfit by an xyz designer and when you get it replicated it never turns out EXACTLY like you're expecting it to be.. In the end you're most likely to get disappointed.

I guess pictures for reference to get a similar outfit with a similar feel is okay, but I've seen women spend theek thaak amount of money and ending up with a distasteful second copy... I've even noticed this trend here at GS.. Whenever I see someone wanting to get these high end bridals copied.. I feel like sending out a virtual stoppppp to them :p but each to their own I guess :)

Re: WHY go for replicas?

I don't think any bride wears a replica and says oh this is an original XYZ Designer jora. It's usually the designers who make replicas of various qualities and then try to pass them off in their portfolios as originals. That's lame.

As for why go for one, like the pp said, sometimes you fall in love with a design and that's all you can imagine yourself wearing. It's also easier for most people to see something already made and imagine it in their colors on their wedding day vs. trusting a designer to create something original for them. Most people are visual creatures and need that finished outfit to envision it vs. A bunch of sketches- and you'd be lucky if you even get those from an average designer. This isn't like getting your dress from
Versace complete with a sketch and a consultation on fabrics and kaam etc., remember. This is more like ok I'll take the neckline from this, and the bottom of that and the kaam from this third and now just picture it altogether and trust that it'll be what you want, and oh btw, if it's not, too bad. I'll either hold it hostage in exchange for the rest of the money, or I'll refuse to work with you on making changes, because frankly, I have no concept of customer service and meh. Too bad for you.

Not all designers do this, of course, but from the horror stories on GS lately it certainly seems like the norm, whether you are a home based designer or a big shot. Would you take the risk knowing all that? Probably not.

It's way easier and relatively painless to find a picture of something you love, find someone more or less reliable and say, copy this.

Re: WHY go for replicas?

I see where you're coming from.. But you have no idea how many actually do try to get replicas made in hopes of being able to boast they are wearing a designer dress. I've gotten countless cases.. One even asked if I could put a label saying HoneyWaqar on the dress.. That was the limit really.

Re: WHY go for replicas?

because i cannot afford the real, i cannot design myself...and so if i like a design i will try to get something very similar in a cheaper version.

i made two replicas so far.

one is a thread and motifs...real was costing £250 , I got the same, maybe better quality even for £120.

other one was a Heritage suit my sister bought, she bought because it was nice not because of the label. She paid £300 and i arranged a copy for £130. changed the color.

As far as i am concerned i dont really care that the two dresses were designer but hey the design was lovely but i wasnt going to pay the original price.

oh i have also made copy of designer Kyles jewellery.
real was quoted £700 and i got an 80% copy for £100. not the exact same thing but if i hadnt seen the designer piece then i would have never been able to think of that design myself.

WHY go for replicas?

SGC you'd be surprised. I know somebody who goes around telling everyone her bridals were HSY because she thinks ppl can't tell. Funny thing is, their not even replica, their normal bazaar outfits. She even claims it when she's wearing cotton wear. It's crazy things ppl do for that kind of attention..

Re: WHY go for replicas?

Brand conscious people are strange strange beings.

Re: WHY go for replicas?

Obviously budget is the main reason but as you mentioned, if you have the money why would you bother going for a copy?

I guess designer branded suits are more visible to the general public due to social media so it's easier to choose a design.
