No, they are not the majority. Unfortunately though, such people often tend to be the most vocal, giving others the impression that they are the majority.

I understand what you are saying :k:

But that again is due to cognitive bias on their own part (the people who see them as a majority). Because the people who see them as a majority know very well how to balance their views when it concerns (certain) other groups, and will always be the first ones to preach against negative generalizations and discrimination about those groups.

Sensible people aren’t selective in their principles.

I think part of the reason people have a negative view of Pakistani people is the defensiveness with which some people respond when being asked the simplest question about Pakistan.

It could be a possibility that iam undrstanding word defensiveness, in your post, wrong. But sometimes a psychological aspect is also involved. With so much negativity already spread through media and people ready to call pakistanis bad names, islamophobia on rise, whenever the discussion steers in pakistans direction, some people already assume it to be an indirect attack. Hence, the behavior. Not dat iam endorsing it. And sometimes we ourselves turn our own people bitter.

in ANY country, the liberals / progressives are not afraid of looking inwards, identifying not just the problem but also the root cause, and proposing solutions. In doing so, they get names thrown at them such as "self-loathing, anti (insert your country here), and yes extremists.

The conservatives patrol on line forums, acting as the patriotism police. They target their verbal astras at the liberals who dare question policies and practices detrimental to the country and to its minorities. It becomes a contest about who can shout the loudest. And here the conservatives win hands down.

Happens everywwhere. Including here.
