I wanted to buy some ebook but the problem is they are same priced as paper books. I don’t understand the reason. If its hard cover books I can understand that paper costs money, printing cost money, moving it to different places cost money. But to just download a book and to pay for copyright it shouldn’t be the same price. Don’t you think online books should be cheaper?
Re: Why e books are expensive?
It’s publishers sucking the profits. E books take out the middle man, and pricing them equal to the hardcopy ensures that the publisher gets a cut. Many other books have cheaper electronic versions, or don’t release the electronic copies until a few weeks after release. It’s a case of a dying industry trying to hold on.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
Man, who pays for books
They don’t have to pass the savings on to you. The price is what the buyer is willing to pay. A key driver of what a buyer is willing to pay is price of alternatives. Additionally value based pricing would say, you are getting instant downloads, can carry many books in a device versus lugging print copies around and thus you pay for that.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
The good news is that things will change.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
True because lots of bookstores have been closed its dying industry. Sad it is, I love books and I love to read the hardcopy.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
Lot of people do. ![]()
Re: Why e books are expensive?
They should, look at the economy, everyone wants to save money these days. If we are getting instant downloads we are paying price for that through high speed Internet. If we have device we had paid high price for that also. Everyone wants your money.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
koi new love story parhnay ka dil ker raha hy
Library zinda baad.
Why ‘should’ they, because they are sensitive people? Their job is to optimize cost, price, volume… .profitability.
If the market is not wiling to bear the price they will adjust or become extinct.
They don’t have to pass the savings.
Btw, do you think that the cost of production of a corolla and a Lexus IS is the same as the price difference?
Re: Why e books are expensive?
Man… who reads books.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
I do :sid:
Re: Why e books are expensive?
I like ebooks for how convenient they are and you can get really good deals on amazon .. I’ve never paid more than 1.99 for an ebook and if I’m completely honest I’ve cheated and gotten ebooks for free off of places like 4shared
But it’s still not the same as holding an actual book and reading it the old fashioned way. I still collect hard covers … and I never buy them for full price either, you can get a hardcover for as little as $4 off of amazon (their used books) and those are as good as new!
Re: Why e books are expensive?
So in somewhat of a serious tone (honestly though man, libraries and russia zindabad), the shipping, hardcover and all that physical crap isn’t really as expensive as you’d think. It adds a few dollars per book.
Also aside from the “physical crap” you still have plenty advertising, and people behind the publishing of the book.
Secondly it’s about who sets the prices. It’s usually not the same people for e-books vs hard-books being bought online.
Lastly, independent bookstores are the best because they’re the coolest. Can’t discount the cool factor.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
Yo even i wanted to buy some books too. I was at Barnes and Nobles in NY other day and thought to myself..to pick few books i really liked. But price tag was ridiculous. And that is not ebook i am talking about. E book is bit more. Don’t know..i am still in search of awesome books..asked around my friends and nerdy people to let me borrow the book they have..that i like to read.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
they are sensitive not sensible
You are right to some extent. Of course there is a huge difference in prices, now tell me where are you going with this.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
Seriously not the new ones
you cannot get them for 1.99$.
Re: Why e books are expensive?
market determines price unless there is not enough competition.
if prices are excessive, people will go to a cheaper alternative.
pricing is value based pricing, not cost plus.
