They made such fantastic dramas during the 80s to mid 90s. Suddenly, our drama makers seem to have lost direction and the focus is purely on glamour and music. Scripts and acting quality have plummeted. Why can’t we have those sweetly written, brilliantly acted 13 episode dramas anymore?

because the private channels are competing with indian soaps and ptv is competing with pakistani private channels and indian soaps.
Those were the days when u would look forward to a drama and know it will be finished in a few months!

they have lost the quality because they left hard work .. now every body come and say the lines on the spot and rush for some other site
and secondly if u ask about ptv ... it is going towards the same place where other sarkari idaray are right now

quality has got better actully, production values have also increased by leaps and bounds, but they have started making more romantic type storys and not like the ones before. but good dramas still come today, all of kamran qureshis dramas are superb (moorat, riyasat and makaan) and there was one called halaat which was probably the best drama ever which came last year on ary.

i wish they make more that kinda dramas .... paki movies r not doin so well but the dramas rule but seems like they r changin the direction

^^ Yup. Ironically our dramas were the best when we didn't even have a fraction of the freedom we have no in our media, and when scripts and wardrobe types were bound by state restrictions etc. Maybe its OK to be a little restrictive in terms of what can be shown and what can not coz that keeps the priorities of the drama makers in check.
But there's hope. Right now there's a real shortage of progamming for the 40+ television channels which have sprung up in the last few years, so some of these channels have to even resort on taking stuff from abroad. In the future, I do expect the quality to improve as we'll be getting in more people into the media and hopefully the dramas will get back to what they were supposed to be!

our producers are trying to copy indian dramas and they also cast indian artists.
This is a big reason.
