I was hoping if anyone knows why pakistan doesnt have same investment opportunities as other countries?
My friend studying in london has told he trades currencies and makes a lot of money from it. Why cant we do that here?
any idea?

^ trading currencies is not 'investment'. If you like gambling, a lot of people do 'invest' in real estate, but the turnover is not as quick as trading currencies. Our economy is still based on family businesses rather than corporations, and hence a small stock exchange and allied trading opportunities.
BTW, you can trade currencies no matter where you physically are.

Maybe because London is the capital of the financial world and Pakistan simply is not.
Naturally, there is more to it than just that however I believe I have given the gist.

\yeah I understand that point but I was hoping there would be some sort of infrastructure in Pakistan where we could possible try out different investment opportunities.

Sorry I can't recall the name, back in 90s I used to see job listings for few companies in this business.

I'm not sure people are even interested in trading currencies in Pakistan. I haven't come across many people who want to do it or have any idea about it. It's a shame because it's such a good way to make money.

May be you are hanging around wrong people then :) . People who want to invest in such business are already doing it. This may not come across as money making for lots of people but then not every business idea is not a cup of tea for everyone.

I spoke to a few people about the offers I was given in London that I wanted to bring to Pakistan. but most of them felt as if it was some sort of scam or that it wasn't anything serious. It's a shame because a lot of money can be made in trading yet people have no clue about it!

I m not sure if you're interested in trading or more in brokerage.
I think there are some broker and ibs in Pakistan who offer currency trading.
But after so many scam happening, better to go safe with a regulated broker abroad.
There are thousands of brokers worldwide, you just have to register your account with them and offcourse you need a bank account from where you will be funding/withdrawing ur money.
Btw i don't know if your friend is telling you truth or not because its not really that much easy as it looks.
Over 90% people fails and loose lots of money in this especially new trader who think this is a fast and easy way to make money.

Thanks for the reply Dior. I'm interested in both aspects because both ways give a chance to make money. I did some more research and it turns out a lot of international brokers have affiliate companies in Pakistan. I was wondering if any one had any experience with these brokers? One that kept turning up was Harvest group?
Yeah there is a risk associated with trading which I am aware off. But I think if it is done properly then you can make substantial amounts of money. Look at Warren Buffet..most of his wealth came from investments and trading. Insha'Allah I hope to follow that path and make money through those ways.

Warren Buffet invested long term primarily in companies with lots of potential and steady cash flows. Trading in currencies actively is more or less gambling. Warren Buffet doesn’t do day trading or currency bets.

I don't know much about them now, but there were several scandals involving them breaching several corporate regulations when they set up their shop in Pakistan. Perhaps, that's the only way of establishing new businesses in Pakistan :D

Hahaha this is Pakistan after all ;) A decent guy will never get too far because the corrupt guys will always push him down. It's a shame because Pakistan has so much potential.
