With so many Indian guppies, I was hoping one would have an answer? I have an personal interest in this because the report would validate whether the conditions that made my dada decide to leave Hyderabad actually existed or not.
He had told me that the Indian army came and confiscated all weapons belonging to Muslims, and then the situation no longer felt safe for Muslims. However, in all the Indian sources on Operation Polo that I could find on the internet, the annexation seemed to be a clean, clinical affair.
In January 1949, two Congressmen from hyderabad who opposed the Nizam, and a hindu congressman submitted a report on the annexation. However, for some reason Nehru and Sardar patel immediately surpressed it, and no Indian government since has allowed it to be published. What is the reason for this?
If it helps, the name of the report was On the Post-Operation Polo Massacres, Rape and Destruction or Seizure of Property in Hyderabad State.
Could someone explain to me why over 50 years later, the Indian government still will not allow the report to be published?
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
I dont know anything about this report, but if its true, I must say atleast the Indian soldiers waited till they secured the capital before they started raping and looting, unlike the Pakistani army which started raping and looting even before they had secured Srinagar.
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
i dont see any reason why india would release a report from 1949 now. there doesnt seem to be any group demanding the release of the same, not even the cyberabadi legislators and MPs.

maddy - sorry to know your family had to leave Hyderabad.
I have visited Hyderabad and found it to be a fascinating city. It now is progressing as a cyber city.
Try to visit it sometime, and catch up to your past..
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
Hyderabad has a majority muslim population. Wherever u go.. u see only urudu and not Telugu. I felt very strange being there. But somehow i could easily manage with some broken hindi though.
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
I heard it was 50-50 (india diluting indian muslim population? ;) ).
Anyway, forget hyderabad, even mumbai and other cities speak more urdu than hindi (an attempt by the indian hindu governments to show they are different and superior as urdu was introduced by mughals, which are muslims).

http://india.gov.in/outerwin.htm?id=http://www.aponline.gov.in here is the official version of the creating of andhra pradesh and police action in hyderabad. Its interesting to read the history of the creating of Andhra. They wanted Madras as well I suppose.
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
.
U mean population. I doubt that. Atleast Hyderabad is predominantly muslim.Secunderabd is hindu though. Usualy the guy some big lampu Ovaisi runs Hyderabad like his family business and in secunderabd it is either BJP or Congress which gets elected.I went there last year january during Bakrid. For kilometers i could see only goats.I never seen so many goats in my life at one place.
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
No, only Hyderabad city was ever predominantly Muslim. The bulk of the state (which was the size of Italy) was overwhelmingly Hindu which frankly is why its existence as a separate nation would have been a violation of 2-nation theory.
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
But doesn't india say that the maharajah of kashmir acceded to India (again violation of the 2-nation theory or the fact that a muslim region goes to india?).

All the so called conditions did not force the hundreds of thousands of muslims who still reside in Hyderabad to move out along with your dada. This would validate your personal interest to rake up an issue that is deader than a dodo I persume..
Re: Why doesn’t India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
It is interesting to find out that the Indian Govt is hiding some report over Hyderabad annexation to India.
It is more interesting to find out that a ‘report’ written by three unknown persons becomes a matter of historical importance for Pak educates.
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
i am confused as to how your dada was conscious of some reality that virtually no other hyderabadi muslim was.
but in any case, perhaps government officials determined that the contents of this report are grossly inaccurate and could work against the interests of the nation?
who exactly has been asking for this report? how come none of the millions of hyderabadis are asking?
Re: Why doesn't India release the 1949 report on human rights abuses in Hyderabad?
This may be the reason :-
First Nizam sponsored terrorists called `Razakars' carried out rapes and killings over Hindu community and then Patel might have thought to give it a befitting reply with the forces ,but sadly in the same coin.
