Why does Islam prohibit non- halal meat

I’m sure there is a valid reason why Allah prescribes Halal as the right means of slaughter of meat. I’m trying to understand what that reason is. I may be wrong but I think halal entails slow killing. I’m also certain Allah wouldn’t want want any creature to die painfully, slowly. Can somebody throw some light ?

Where do you get the idea that it is slow killing?

Infact in halal way of slaughtering, it is ordered to use a sharp knife and to cut the jugular of the animal quickly and cleanly the first time, so the animal experiences the minimal possible pain. Once this happens, the animal is dead (feels no pain) and the blood is drained out (similar to what all modern slaughterhouses do everywhere).
