Why does God need to be worshipped?

I was just thinking the other day “what purpose do we serve by worhipping god? Why is worshipping him the right thing to do?”

I mean if you are an atheist, to you worshipping god is pointless and serves no purpose whereas you might donate to a charity cuz then youd be helping those in need and clearly that serves a better purpose (note: i wrote if you are an atheist)

The purpose of this thread isn’t to offend any one or to seek any attention but rather to feed my curiosity. And before you jump to any conclusions and call me a blasphmer or w/e, let me tell you that im a proud muslim and to me worshipping god is the right thing to do just cause he said so. Thats reason enough for me.

PS. Please stick to the topic and dont post at all if you know that what you are going to post has nothing to do with this thread.

If you, as a muslim, are very sure about your convictions, then from a religious stand-point, the issue becomes a bit moot. Its based on faith. Unless, ofcourse, you want to discuss this from a more, shall we say, philosophical viewpoint.

Feel free to move it to the science and philosophy section if you think its more suited to be there.

Worship in Islam is every action we do as long as it is halal. We undertake halal actions in order to please Allah(swt) and seek the reward of Jannah.

Allah (swt) has enjoined on us many obligations which do not stop at just salah.

The purpose of our creation is to serve Allah. This does not mean to be in the masjid 24 hours of day seven days a week. Allah(swt) created us with instincts and organic needs which have to be satisfied in accordance with Islam. So working to earn a wage is also serving Allah as long as the work is halal.

It is the right thing to do because Allah(swt) has said its the right thing to do. The human being is limited in his/her thinking and cannot decide for him/herself right and wrong as you can see in the secular world. Where someone can be punished for a crime and ten years later that same crime becomes legal and then it might become a crime again.

Who is the better judge? The Creator or the created.

If we consider the condition man is in this vast universe, it is that of a needy dependent. Man is neither omnipotent, nor self-sufficient. He is in need, constant need, of many things vital even for mere survival, which are not wholly within his power to obtain. At the same time, he is weak and vulnerable: many circumstances can arise which can harm him and obstruct and overturn his most cherished and determined purposes. He is beset by worries, illnesses, calamities that can ruin his life’s work in a single moment. As against the sheer scale of what is around him, the number and the variety of plants, trees, animals, rivers and mountains, the awesome power of natural forces, the grandeur of the heavens, he is bound to reflect on his own frailty and relative insignificance. That reflection, that profound impression of his own helplessness and smallness compared to the tremendous harmonies and scales of the order all around him, awaken something deeply embedded in his soul which bids him to acknowledge the Divine and to worship. He is bound to consider the existence of some great mysterious power behind or beyond nature which controls the objects and events around him. Since everything he can observe is patently dependent on some other thing, since everything is transient, nothing he can see or touch can be that which he needs to worship. Rather, both reason and experience lead him to conclude that there is a Supreme Being, a Transcendent Will, beyond the visible, tangible harmony of the universe, who guides and controls all things and who must, therefore, be the goal of his worship.

depends on what u take from the meaning of 'worship'....

as someone has said earlier, every action one does in obedience to Allah and His Messenger is an act of worship....

reason is very simple: god doesn't have cable.

Terry prachet wrote a book on this idea.

Small gods? Its interesting.

Whats the point of being a god if u have no small mortal poeple to worship u, everything is relative right?

does muslims have special protection from god than others just because you pray to allah?

if ur an atheist, who do u blame if not God? The concept of "God" will never go away even in atheism b/c u start believing you're God..its true

I don't think God needs us to worship -- I think that it's more like we need to worship in order to better our lives...

^^ i like the way you think

god exist exclusively for humans ? there are so many planets without humans and our planet also exited without humans for biillions of years.

If you read Qur'an, you will find that not only humans worship Allah. smile

That would have been my reply exactly. Well, if I were half as good at articulating my thoughts :jhanda:

However, HE did create us in a way that we’d have that inherent need, which means, there was indeed a need to be worshipped on HIS part :mudhosh:

Exactly.Ofcourse as Muslims we believe that Allah expect/wants us to worship Him.

However as humans we have this need , it can only be fulfilled with a belief of a higher Supreme Being.Mans knowlege is limited, no matter how far science takes the human race, there can never be something the same as faith. We need to know that there is a Higher Being who created us, takes care of us, and is in charge of this world we live in.Sometimes even those who are against a God of any form, will turn to Him, because He is so much Greater than the rest of us, we need to feel there will be something after our life on earth.
