Why does God care whether we eat pig / consume alcohol / dress in a certain way etc

I think its more about discipline then some medical reasons... for God it doesn't matter if it will harm you in any way the more important thing for Him is how we response to His will.
Lemme put it this way, in garden of Eden Adam and Eve were not supposed to go near the forbiden tree and eat the fruit. From what I know it was an apple tree, but they did go and eat it, hence punished NOT FOR THAT THEY ate the forbiden fruit but for going against His will. The same applys to the Alcohol and Pigs, alcohol WAS allowed in earlly days and IS promissed in heaven then arguing abt if its good or bad for health is meaningless for me. What I conclude is that the more important thing is that if we are destined to retain ourselves from these then we must.

comments on subah's thread-----

Dear Subah,

Assalam alei-kum,

Its nice question!

Please read all the lines otherwise you would not get what I wanted to convey.

We follow GOD'S laws as a gesture to his creating us, and his blessings to us. All these things we do to please him knowingly and believing him,as the creator of every thing and if he says , do this do not do that ,we must obey him ;because all these limitations from him to us are ,after we declare that we are yours not shatan's.

He does care about us, then , instead you say we care about him. He cares about us because we are his creations and HE wants us to be able to filfull our promise to him that we are yours and not shatan's.

He, who knows every thing, knows that SHATAN has been left to misguide us.

And he had said to shatan you would be able to misguide all but those who are true mines.

So we are obliged to prove, ourselves; that we are yours'O creator of everything including SHTAN.

How can we do it?

We knew about the creator by Prophet Mohammed(P), we knew about his law book (QURAN) through his prophet Mohammed.

Now ,as every muslim knows at least once, every one should read QURAN to know those laws, which are to be followed; if you are for HIM (GOD"S) not Shahtani.

So after reading QURAN and knowing about what pleases GOD, And how would HE believe in that we are for him from our inner souls. We
do what keeps us rightest, on the path HE (GOD ) wants us to be, if we are HIS not the one who can ever fall for the love of Shtan.

So all those conditions GOD has put us to do while we claim to be for him in his group of lovers, we find out and we do that.

AND AND-----
And what ever conditions he has put in his law book to not do to be truely HIS; we do not do them.

We can do what he has asked us to do, and we should not do what ever he has asked us to not do; is ONLY AND ONLY helps us to stay in the path of life we have selected for us to be HIS BUT HIS.

With the above limitations HE has helped us, to stay HIS as HE is the creator HE knows our chemistry and HE knows what things, if we would do our chemicals in our body material would react to produce such chemicals which would take us to different path of Shahtan.

All these limitations are to keep our body's chemicals of the kind when we decide to be HIS, and we want to pass our lives in the code we have promised to him to be called as HIS not Shahtani.

Pig has chemicals ----which is causitive of cancer, thus may reduce our life span. God wants us to stay alive as such we are HIS and feels proud of us also to be HIs.

Alcohol, Same is true for alcohols---consumption of different ratios cause different chemical changes which are causitive to increase, emotional changes, uncontrolable by one self. This can take one to the other path of life (SHAHTANI)which he does not want at the first place ,when he had chosen Islam as his way of life(HIS PATH).
So prohabiting alcohol is his support to keep our chosen path(HIS PATH).

Since at the first time when Adam and Hawa had not obeyed God and had eatten apple, which was causitive to create certain chemical changes in them, which made them feel----.Since then, looking at certain part of men and women, body are causitive of certain kind of chemical reactions, which secrete such chemicals that one need to be -------, even if one does not want. So it has been asked by both men and women to keep their SHARAM GAHEEN covered except when HE wants you to indulge in s-x, where HE has permitted you to do so. Between a married couple. Regards sokoon

God cares just to see how well we adhere to His Commands and thats all that He wants to test us with....

recall the story of Ibrahim (as) and the sacrifice of Ismail (as)....
God really did not care about him slaughtering his son....
He just wanted to assure Ibrahim(as)'s obedience....

and that is what Allah cares about....
the prohibitions and the orders r just to test us....
to test our taqwa....

Quran 22:37
Their flesh and their food reach not Allah, but the devotion (taqwa) from you reacheth Him
[/QUOTE]

How would you know this so called "test of Ibrahim's obedience" ever took place. Ohhh from The Book.... well the Book is based on the stories from the old days and we don't know the authenticity of those stories. Like Mose meeting God on a hilltop, what a story.

how do u verify anything in history???

dont tell me u just reject history and say “hey i wasnt here when the wright brothers flew so they never did it”…

and then u talk about using logic…

Unlike the stories of Ibrahim and Noahs, Wright Brother flight was recorded event and did not come to us as a word of mouth.

^
too bad that u think written records r the only medium of storing information....

and btw, the abraham story has been writtten down so longback that i dont think u can count the number of days that come between u and its recording....

Wrong. A glass of red wine is great for the heart. Three glasses are even better. People drinking three glasses a day outlive teetotaller by 5 years and enjoy it to boot.

could you point me to this research? it might help me at work.

Based on my current study, even social drinking has long term damage.

people who ask such question should do a tasbeeh of lahol
i am sick of these questions, i mean isnt it a part of being a muslim, that is before you accept islam that Allah is almighty , He knows whats best, early people never used to ask these questions perhaps that is why they are at the position where they are. Some might say its healthy to ask a question when you dont understand it but now a days its a trend for muslims to criticize there religion so much that i get sick of it. you wanna be muslim than study yourself these are just idle questions and irksome with that.
second look at the mannerism "why does God care", learn some respect if your curious doesnt mean you have to forget your manners, beggars cant be choosers right and well what right religion is there other than islam? so well tell these people to learn to respect and than ask questions.

I think it's natural to be curious and for most questions there is a logical answer. BUT, arguing for the sake of arguing and try to find faults in logic given, that is futile.

//I think that God does care about people. And like someone said earlier, look at the times that the laws were written. It was a wild completely lawless society and people were out of hand.

Its only been within the last century or so that a a fatal disease called Trichinosis was discovered to be rampant in pigs. So eating pork could kill you until it was discovered and eradicated. Yes, pigs are dirty and have been known to eat their own feces but guess what? so do cows, sheep and chickens! But it was only pork that could kill you.
//

So you mean to say that Islams rules are not going to stand the test of time. According to you the rules that were written 1400 years ago dont have relevance now. It has relevance only in the wild wild wild west where people had no culture and did not understand the basic concepts of humanity...

I dont know how many of the guppies here would agree to this reasoning.

Actually, if you go back and read my post, I did say "there is (and still are!!!!) good reasons for all of the rules that are written". (the wild west really hasnt much relevance here, but the same applies - laws were enacted to contain a society that was out of hand! The laws in the wild west were written and enacted by people tho, not by a prophet so thats why it doesnt really apply here) ANyway, if you try to make sense out of "why is pork forbidden", then my reasoning stands - it used to kill people and now does not. Does that mean that I think its ok to eat pork now? No, not really. But I don't think that a person will go to hell for having a hankering for bacon if that person is a law-abiding, respectful good person leading a good life. Same goes for having a beer or two. Really, do you think a merciful God would send a good person to hell for those things?

How many do you want?

http://future.newsday.com/2/quiz.htm (This quiz attribute positive value to drinking red wine)
http://future.newsday.com/2/quiz.htm

I give up. There are too many references to red wine being good for health. Nobody says you should drink red wine in excess but regular and moderate drinking of red wine has been shown to increase life expectancy without a shadow of doubt.

no actually i meant the 5 years figure. this talks about cholestrol, not life expectancy, which are not necessarily directly related because of other impacts alcohol may have.

I will post the precise reference on the specifice number of years later when I have some time.

ravage,

Just a quick note before I rush off to a meeting. yes, in excess alocohol is harmful. Equally harmful is eating meat. In fact the amount of meat most of us eat is way too much. My dietician comvinced me to limit my meat consumption (mostly beef) to 3 ounces a day. She said that is enough meat for an adult male. Three months of this, dropped my BP from 155/110 to 112/73. During this time I drank also two glasse of red wine on ger recommendation.

Now are you willing to limit your meat intake to 3 ounces per day? If you eat more than this a day, you are already eating too much meat and increasing your chances of CAD. Drinking red wine in moderation has only beneficial effects on your health and no amount of religious references to the contrary will change that.

Who ever eats red meat every day?

This discussion is too philosophical for this forum. Off it goes to its rightful place.

faisal bhai there r better ways of advertising (announcing) the new title of a forum than just throwing good threads into it....

just replace the K2 banner with a notice.... :p
