Re: Why does Assad have so many common enemies?
So these problems are down to one sect fighting another.
What should the international community be doing? Would you be happy with Western intervention? Or should they stay out of it?

But at the end of the day, there is no unity at all - anywhere. It's easy to point the finger at the US and Israel, but these communities have their own deep-rooted hatred towards each other.

Many people here will constantly blame the usual suspects for all of the Muslim worlds problems, i.e the West, Israel, the US UN and India but fail to see the deep rooted issues.
Re: Why does Assad have so many common enemies?
Assad is surrounded by common enemies, because he has uniquely common friends and allies (Iran, Russia). Anyone that has a clear and declared alliance with the two nations is bound to be on the receiving end of thrashing in the current geo-political circumstances. Whether openly or covertly.
More than that, he's being drummed up to be a resisting force that is not going down without a fight. The truth is, the interest-holders just aren't ready to take the gloves off. When the time has come, it will be the same lather, rinse, and repeat cycle as Egypt.
Being Alawaiite is just bonus ammo that is also being used in the mix to keep the events perpetuating like a domino effect. Sects just get "used" for greater political gain.

People with different sects have been living for centuries without major problems, so how come now?
(BTW the same question is applicable to Pakistan)

BBC News - Syria conflict: John Kerry extends US aid to rebels
What do you guys think of Western intervention is it a good thing or not, what would you guys like the US, Europe etc to do in this situation? The Americans are usually blamed for many of the problems in the Islamic world so what should they do in this situation? I really would like to know your opinions.
Re: Why does Assad have so many common enemies?
^this money is a clear bribe to have influence over the next syrian government.
The syrian people should reject this money and decide their own future without the interference from enemy states.
Re: Why does Assad have so many common enemies?
Its interesting that many many Muslims aren't in an uproar about Western involvement in Syria and regime change. Maybe its because that most Muslims are Sunni and happy to see the minority Alawites ousted.

Would you say the same about Saudi and Qatari involvement?

Historically, the Alawi lived mostly in isolation in their own rural villages in Syria and played little part in the country, They were treated as non-Muslims and persecuted by the Ottomans, but as a tiny powerless minority, they were ignored. Most Syrians would never meet an Alawi.
They rose to power during the growth of secular political parties under the French and enthusiastically joined Syria's Baath party. Under the Baath the Alawis grew disproportionately powerful.
What you see in Syria now is the consequence of that. There was virtually no tension before because firstly the Alawis kept a low profile, and secondly because after taking power they used the state to surpress any opposition to them.
Re: Why does Assad have so many common enemies?
The question which was forced on the heads of the syrian people was do they sit and home and wait to be killed by Assads forces?
or do they unite and fight back?
they chose to fight back, a lot of the people on Assads side happen to be alawite but they not the focus of the syrian peoples fight back its about survival and liberating the country from a mad dictator!
