I believe the religious one should have capability to counter the atheist and the person with strongest argument wins this is fair.

this how the scholars of past debate with atheists abu hanifah being one of the famous scholars used to destroy atheist arguments with ease.

If you cannot defend islam by discussion then do you homework and have good counter argument, because islam encourage debate we don’t shy away from this subject we welcome it.

I agree, however, Islam also discourage you from indulging in futile debates with people who only have the intention to spread fitna, fasaad and wind you up.
