Why do you want work with this company?

This is one question that every interviewer asks. Why do you want to work with [insert company name here] ?

This is such a absurd question IMHO. The interviewer knows the answer. I know the answer. Yet i’m forced to make up a flattering answer, he/she knows i’m forced to make up that answer and he/she plays along!

So would it be a bad thing if i tell them whats on my mind? Would it be bad if i tell them “because i’m looking for a job and you guys are hiring, thats why!” ?

Re: Why do you want work with this company?

it depends on what you have in your mind. the main objective of this question is to find out about your priorities. if your reply is in purely financial grounds that it will reflect that given a better opportunity, you WILL leave, which most companies don’t appriciate if there are any training and development programs are in place.

about three months back I was interviewing for this engineering role, and when I asked the same question, he replied, "before applying for this role I was conducting some market survey, and I noticed that “XYZ is offerering the most competitive packages, and there are future prospects of progrssion within the company”
after the interview our HR manager immidiatly declined him on the grounds that he mentioned the SALARY package 1st. :smack2:

Re: Why do you want work with this company?

The main purpose of this question is to see if you know something about the company. Also to find out how much interest you have in the job and the company . I do a lot of research about the company and base my answer on that research that makes them happy. So many times I got job offers just based on my answer to this question and the fact that I did my research on the company. Other candidates did not do such research or research was not as detailed as mine. It gave me an edge over others.
This research helps you frame your answer for example:
1. I want to join because this company rewards loyal employees.
This answer sends the vibes to the interviewer that you have all the intentions to stick to the company for a long time.
2. I want to join because this company is ahead of the curve in staying competitive this will help me learn the game.
3. This company is located in a city which has nice weather and that is what I like , of course my decision is not based only on this factor but it surely help to finalize my decision.
do you get the idea ? If you need more examples then build on these.

Re: Why do you want work with this company?

I agree with Mirch... the question is very valid IMHO...

I'd rather hire a person who knows about my company... and what our core competencies are... and how his/her skills and ambitions align with what my firm is all about - than someone who is interviewing for a job in their field of expertise.

It's all about mapping what you have to offer the firm with what the firm has to offer to you.

Re: Why do you want work with this company?

hah...
ever dealt with jokers who ask basic questions about the company when u give them the opportunty to ask questions that you wonder why they are even interviewing.

same thing here..how aligned is the company with the person's goals etc. thats what I look for when i lookover responses for these type of questions.
