Let’s think and list down our reasons for reading and what we get out of it.
It could be anything; knowledge, improve vocabulary, combat loneliness, escape from the real, understanding the world around us and so on.
Re: Why do you read? What do you get out of it?
knowledge / learn new things
time pass / to coup boredom ![]()
understanding psyche and thought process of people living around us through characters in the books
May be to learn how to write (if someday we get a chance to write a book)
I start reading some religious stuff when I feel I’m lacking spirituality.
Re: Why do you read? What do you get out of it?
For me, it's an escape from reality. I become the characters while reading. I live in their world and forget mine.

I enjoy reading; did so as a kid. It can be relaxing before going to sleep. I teach the subject so I also read to be updated on books that I can recommend to students. But, yes, it also sometimes serves as an escape for me as well...as a distraction from my own problems.

another form of entertainment, but one in which ones own brain plays a significant and active role. that and there is a certain innate happiness that comes from simply concentrating on a single thing for a sustained period of time.

No better words to say this!!
I like that my brain not only stays engaged but that it grows as a result of this activity be it through gaining knowledge or experiencing something vicariously.
And yes...focusing on no more than the ONE thing brings escape from reality where I'm usually juggling more.

Re: Why do you read? What do you get out of it?
Reading is probably the most calming thing there is out there. It’s not only fun (from the aspect of getting lost in another world) but also experiencing a whole other dimension. I’ve begun to form my own mini library…soon it shall be world domination ![]()
Re: Why do you read? What do you get out of it?
Read to keep updated on my line of work, and to further expand my knowledge on topics I find interesting. I rarely, if ever, read fiction.
