But when a man opens a door for another man is that showing respect? Nope not at all. Its just hey that guy opened the door…ohhh look at that hottie that just walked by.

And in the modern day and age shouldn’t a woman’s self-esteem and value come from her own self-worth and not her interactions with men?

What did Mr. Maslow say about our hierarchy of needs? The fourth step was our need for esteem that comes from both within (self-esteem) and from without (respect of others). While in an ideal world our self-esteem would be sufficient, in the real world it is not. We as humans crave/desire the respect and consideration of others. How that is manifested differs from person to person. But social constructs have made chivalry a demonstration of said respect being accorded to women.

Call it what you want, call it courtesy so that it’s not gender specific - but everyone wants to be treated well.
