acha correct me if I am wrong: so far I havent seen anyone say wearing provocative clothing is IMMORAL. Why is everyone arguing over that??
Matsui-in my earlier post, the point was for you to see also: that even Americans born and bred here may see provocative clothing as not modest. I think you missed that part. This was in reply to what you said, how you want all people who want to dress modestly to go back where they came from.
I don’t quiet agree with those who are arguing that women show cleavage because they are insecure. It might be true in some cases but others do it just because it has become part of their culture. That’s what they have grown up to and do not feel uncomfortable with. And while some of us can consider it ‘immoral’ for them it’s part of being beautiful, social and sexy [ok, I don’t want to start a discussion what the term means].
This is not very different from women who tend to wear a chador just because they have seen their mother, sisters, aunts doing it. They feel comfortable in it and feel fit in the society at large… being modest or ‘religious’ comes to their mind later.
I wear jeans to work with my slippers that I take off the minute I get to my desk. It has more to do with fitting into my nerdy work place but the attire being comfortable is a plus. IMO, human nature is too complex to make a judgment on it in simple terms looking at only a few variables.
There is difference IRA between modesty and morality. Modesty is a personal attribute whereas morality is more of a cultural one. Dress yourself from head to toe in jute might make you modest but doesn;t make you moral. Wearing a cleavage enhancing top might make you feel just as modest but doesn;t make you immoral.
There are many folks who dress a certain way. Low cut tops, strapless tops when going out for the night ont he town with your friends, mate etc..doesn;t mean the person is immodest.
