Why do we

women, in particular, cover themselves the way they do for namaz.

Does it stem from cultural perspectives, or is there a real argument for it in Islam.

Furthermore, what is the story behind the sar pe dupata for reading Quran?

[no long hadith without sources, please.]

just for discussion purposes. don’t judge.:@:

Re: Why do we

A real argument from Islam

Re: Why do we

Same argument apply which apply to wearing hijab or no hijab in public or privacy.

Re: Why do we

^lets take the side of wearing hijab for argument's sake, even then, you do not need to be in hijab
when you are in your house.

Re: Why do we

:k: you can’t help but be condescending. thanks for the input.

Re: Why do we

Womens are without proper 'satr' most of the time.....so they try to do that while praying or reciting quran...

Re: Why do we

clarify…try to do what?

I don’t get why a man can open up a Quran without any of these extra measures, but a woman has to cover her head? This isn’t abut men vs women and equal rights () , it’s the same book for both; I don’t why your head needs to be covered to read and understand Quran.

Re: Why do we

try to cover up.....like full 'satr' covered...

i think its sorta cultural aspect of being 'respectful' to the book n all.......

Re: Why do we

I was going to say the same.

Re: Why do we

I don't wear dupatta on my head when reading the Quran. It is a book of guidance and should be treated as such. Read it whenever you need Islamic guidance etc. Dupatta and wudhu etc is not compulsory, just a cultural thing and in many opinions a sign of respect.

Re: Why do we

We had a discussion in R&S forum about touching Quran without wudu.
http://www.paklinks.com/gs/religion-and-scripture/514943-reading-quran-without-wudhu.html

Re: Why do we

wether it is a cultural thing or not is another aspect, but always remember quran is the book of internal guidance as well as external, quran has described the universal n general principles tht are valid fr ever so plzzz never hesitate to read it whenever you need it ,its yr personal book of guidance wether ya have duppattta or wudu are the secondary things ,make it or its translation the most read n understood book in yr life thts the prefrence.

Re: Why do we

P[lease read all the list but also point 4. with extra care …

For salah there is an awra different to simply being in the home. Hadith reported by Aisha (RA) that a woman’s prayer is not accepted unless she has covered the head - In Abu Dawood.](“The Etiquettes of Reading and Handling the Qur'an”)

Re: Why do we

are you serious?

Re: Why do we

Yeah why not. if i want to read the Quran and havent had chance to do wudhu, it shouldnt stop me from reading/touching the Quran. And i also dont understand why apparently women arent supposed to touch the Quran during the time of the month. I read the Quran whenever i want. Right or wrong, this is between me and Allah swt. I dont see why it should be questioned by anyone.
