why do we use our religion when it suits us..

pls dont post this into the other sections…

i came across a issue in a family, where these people dont implement shariah law in their lives, they dont even approve of some things in it, or atleast wouldnt do it themselves, are not practising muslims, hardly.

yet when it came to inheritance, all the brothers and sisters,( KIDS OF DECEASED) would have this bigg meeting weekly to figure out what to do with the money left behind, and all of a sudden shariah law is mentioned and thats what the brothers are wanting…one brother in part who almost sounds like hes anti-islam at times…ive noticed to gain money, people use sharia law as a ground to be greedy…otherwise the law is ignored.

whys this…
im pretty sure most people are like this, are you? would you not use the law in ur day to day life, but if it came to money matters would you fight ur shariah law right ?

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

I don't see anything wrong with claiming inheritance under Shariah as long as they're not screwing anyone over. Even if they're not practicing Muslims.

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

^^ Theres something called being a Muslim.. Which means .. You either follow something full or nothing .. you cant pick n choose .. it aint a grocery store .. neither does islam have grey areas .. so if your picking and choosing shariah for personal gains .. thas not really following shariah is it .. shariah teaches that you follow it full and not just when it comes to inheritence but to follow Islamic Laws daily from praying 5 times to giving salam to ppl ..you cant just follow things you like and leave the things u dont .. Islam is perfect.. and if someone begins to question thing that they dont like .. then they re not really following Islam are they ..

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

Reminds me of a hadith. Jabir (ra) went to Rasoolallah (saw) and told him about a dream where he saw a green cloth and people were just cutting away different pieces for themselves, and Rasoolallah (saw) said that the cloth is Islam and that the people will later choose and cut what they like about Islam, leaving the rest alone.

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

^^So they don't follow Islam, but consider themselves Muslims. Does that mean they're not allowed to divide inheritance by Shariah now? Sure it's pick and choose, but their ultimate fate will be decided by Allah, not us.

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

People do it whenever they have a problem agreeing on something that will effect everyone. Mutual agreement would be impossible if a guiding authority isn't brought in.

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

I never said I'm deciding their fate or telling them whether they go to heaven or hell. That's all in Allah's (swt) power, so it'd be totally haram if somebody decided to tell somebody else they're going to hell.

Hot damn. Any of those girls single? I need a sugar mama. By the way Nadz are you the nosy old woman who keeps track of everybody on the block or apartment building?

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

Because it's easy to sit in a group with a calculator and divide money, if the condition for gaining your shariah share of inheritance was to pray 1000 rakat, they would probably be to lazy and just share the money in equal amouts. The muslims I know that drink alcohol still eat Halaal, why? Because it takes no effort to buy halaal when butchers are so local, while it takes effort to resist the temptations of intoxicants. The muslims I know that are not regular in prayers still pray Zhur, Asr, Magrib and Isha, why? Because it takes very little effort to pray when your already awake, it takes effort to drag yourself out of bed to pray Fajr.

The ratios for dividing inheritance is pretty simple and can be found in the Quran, people should really create wills to reflect this.

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

B/C people are hypocritical and do things out of convenience.

Majority of the Muslims I know don't pray 5 times a day or practice hijab. I know plenty of Muslim who date, go clubbing, and even drink. Yet every single Muslim I know, does NOT eat pork. It's all about picking and choosing and convenience.

And in your example....simple.....$$$ makes people greedy.

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

Exactly. So looking on down on these people who are using Shariah for their convenience would in fact make US hypocritical. Every Muslim picks and chooses to some degree. All of us listen to music, watch movies, skip prayers occasionally, make excuses to get out of work, etc. etc. All this falls under pick and choose too. If these people are using Shariah for greed, they will have to answer to Allah, but right now we shouldn't be sitting here judging them for it.

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

Lol .. of course the brothers are wanting that. As far as I know, the brothers have something to gain by implying the Sharia Law of inheritence. While in west everything is divided half-half among siblings of different gender, this is not the case in Sharia Law, where boys get 2/3 and girls get 1/3 or you may say 2:1

But it is human nature that we choose what suits us leaving behind what we dont like. Havent you see how people sort in their fruits if it is placed in an open box to get the fruit they want. Thats the same case with religion nowadays, when suited it is implied, when not it is thrown out of the window. Ask any girl about join system and she will be fast in refering to Islam and her rights to have a seperate house, ask the same girl about hijaab and pardah and she will shy away with excuzes like “each to his own”-bla bla. **

Re: why do we use our religion when it suits us..

**every one has a shaitan with him/her. a person is good/bad is dependent on how much that individual has subdued his/her shaitaan. this come thru "taqwa" [piety]. so looks like most people these days, whether religious or otherwise, haven't subdued their shaitaan at all. shaitaan rules over them. so, if shaitan is ur leader or ur ring-master, what else we can expect from that person? its NOT unique to ur family alone, its the case with almost every family in which it raises its ugly head in many many forms n shapes...

...lets ALL subdue OUR shaitaans in order to have a better life and better world, both this world and the world here after. this is the biggest jihaad [jihaad bil nafs - struggles with self]**
