What is this frustrated rage inside us that makes us do these things?? Why are our mobs not enraged when we end up as the 10th most corrupt country or when we find out we have less than 30% literacy or when a panchayat orders a woman to be gangraped??
Why do we become such ‘ghairat-mand musalmaans’ when it comes to the desecration of a a Book we don’t even care to read let alone follow??
Because in our effort to get close to god...we end up following rituals and practices without thinking about the message that we ultimately seek.
Its funny and ironic. I think its a case of common guilt and an effort to thwart it out of our own minds.
People over-reacting in such situations are only those who can actually identify with the person who is physically desecrating the book. Its their own guilt of desecrating the book (by not following/reading it; well for most of us (myself included) Quran is a mystery yet to explored), that they see in the victim and by hurting him/her they sort of kill something bad in their own selves.
If he really did do that then the asshole deserves it, i don't blame the cop i would have done the same thing...
Taz bro if I were you i'd be rethinking my understanding of Islam. In Islam, punishments are handed out by the court and it is certainly not upto a layman to give out punishments to others based on 'what he thinks is wrong', which would result in every person giving out punishment based on their belief and a general concept of 'might is right'. We've been told to judge by what Allah has revealed, and until we have a mastery of that, how can we dish out punishments as we want?
Sad! Truely a murder in the name of Allah!

Actually, if the guy had desecrated a Bible or Ramayen or Gita or an Ahmadi mosque, they will probably elect him to the Parliament. Oh well. He missed his calling.
