Re: Why do we feel sorry for others?
Because we are hardwired by nature to feel empathy for others. Since survival requires close cooperation, helping and supporting others meant that we ensure our own survival.
But we naturally tend to feel more for those closest too us genetically, because its they who are generally part of our group. People distinct from us genetically and socially, were from competing groups, and so dont illicit the same feelings.
Thats why we feel for people within our group, religious or otherwise, but not so much for those in remote areas we have never heard off. The closer we are genetically the more affinity we feel for someone.
