Re: Why do they....
A conspiracy between the Mounties and the CIA to test out who exactly is patriotic. If you don't buy the 1 cent stamp, you support the terrorists.
Re: Why do they…
Here its 2 cents ![]()
it’ll be 41 cents now.
Re: Why do they....
just use the 49 cent stamp, don't put a return address on the envelope, and it'll eventually get to where it has to go :p
at least i think that'll work

It happened few years back as well,
On the other hand, if you calculate the total cost of paper, printing, supply, transport charges, commissions etc, it will be more than 1 cent I guess...
But if you are selling 1 million of those stamps in a week or so, you will be having 10,000 Dollars as extra revenue minus its cost of course. Once they are finished with these stamps, they will print new stamps with 1 cent added amount.
But over all, this shows the character of some progressed nation, how they think about minor things, and go by only rules.
Re: Why do they....
Because they have probably discovered that much more of an increase will make people angry, and they already print 1 and 2 cent stamps. Unfortunately the postal service has been losing out to e-mail for awhile now, and need to increase their revenue.
One of their less brilliant ideas a few years back had been to put a surcharge on e-mail. I have no idea how on earth they were planning to implement that one!

Because if you are short, they can spend more money returning it for insufficient postage...
Re: Why do they....
We pay 32p per stamp, 1st class.
You have it easy.
Re: Why do they....
incremental increases make it look like that the increase is not that steep.
it is a clever marketing and sales trick.
Re: Why do they....
You can still use the older-rate stamps...I am sure your mail will reach the addressee...
PS: Increasing 10¢ every time will be too expensive and crazy... :D
Re: Why do they....
well for you its only 1 cent but they are increasing it 2 extra cents for is
right now we are at .39 it will go up to .41
few more years it will be a dollar *sigh
mehangai ouuch
Re: Why do they....
Increased competition from parcel companies, plus fundamental changes in communication du to email/texting, cheaper phone services, fax etc etc has impacted traditional postal services big time. For too long they had been ditting fat happy and dumb at their virtual monopoly and were way too slow in responding to the changes, now they have no option but to increase postage rates due to overhead costs, plus we seem to forget about inflation.
Re: Why do they…
I dunno but one time I sent a letter to Shikra with a 2 cent postage stamp :D. I’m not sure how it went through, but it did. I guess the mailman didn’t notice it. Shikra noticed it when he got it though. ![]()
