I was dressed in shalwar kameez! the typical outfits they were dressed in. But apprently, my uncle was telling me from there that whatever you do, even if you try to blend in you can't because you have a different smell (obvs not the **** smell they have) different looks (even thought you might be full pakistani) and different ways, walk and attitude about you
Ur in the hood, go around and act like it. Just act more snobby, more crass, and more violent than everyone and they'll leave you alone. Or get your big brother to do it! :P
I think it's a Punjabi thing, they had to put armed guards at Darbar Sahib to stop drug addicts from stealing purses, and groping women.
Since they keep us ignorant about each other, think about that happening at Mecca.
edit - And don't try to blend in, stand out more. They gonna stare anyway, but beause and esp. due to you being a woman,

you know, coming from a subcontinental background, i could point out so many social flaws in your society as well. it would be like an infinite list of things that we feel are just blatantly wrong. but i dont need to do that. what's the use?
every society has it positives and negatives. every society has its own set of ills. all of us know that. but it seems like the folks at gupshup take special pleasure in taking pot shots at all things pakistani.

I have lived all my life in Pakistan, n now I am wondering whether you guys are taking about same place,yes ppl stare you but not like they are doing your x ray or touching you or your hairs. it depends what are you wearing, even if shalwar kameez but no dupata yes ppl will stare you, I have seen ladies wearing see through lawn dresses, ppl will stare them, your long hairs whether dyed or not are open you are in full make up. you cant stop ppl from staring but dress well so tht if ppl even stare you , atleast you are comfortable tht you are showing them nothing.

Not exactly ..they stare at the BURQA clad girls too. Aadat se majboor :)
