One of my friends is trying to set a date for her engagement, and her in-laws refused to have it in Muharram.
So, my questions is,
why do some muslims not have any celebrations during the month of Muharram?

It is just lack of understanding about Islam that prevails.
It probably is,
but where did this idea come from that you should not celebrate anything during the month of Muharram?
It would start a debate between shia/sunni and barelvis. So I guess, I will just keep quiet.
