I think when people start putting themselves on a higher pedastal and start looking down upon others around, it creates negativity in them. Negative Proudness, it is.

I believe this is why our Prophet (saw) taught us to be humble and forbade us to look down on others. Because not being humble and feeling others are lower than one's ownself with a feeling of a pride not only creates negativity but brings down the person to the level of Satan.

Don't you remember the lecture in Uni when they told all of the students that plagiarism was grounds for expulsion? I still have nightmares about that all of these years later.

Sehrysh , this is the same phenomenon i have found myself pondering on occasionally ...

I think its down to one's nature ... alot of people who have seen difficulties in life and have never had an easy ride , manage to live a very happy life coz they believe in reflecting the positive energy even if life gives them crap .. this attitude isnt every one's cup of tea .. it only comes to those who are optimistic and believe in humanity ...

yet there are others, who simply arent strong enough and they become vengeful and feel themselves to be victims of nature .. they fail to understand that in life every one undergoes alot of crap , if everyone started giving that crap back to others around them, this world would turn into hell ! but hey , these people end up having a very negative outlook to life , leading to many others around them believing that they have a negative disposition ...

Academic misconduct. :vivo: I have a story about that too, but I will save it for another day.

My responses are usually serious. You have to dig deeper, and buried beneath a thin veil of sarcasm you will find the seriousness, or even wisdom. I believe I am one of those people with a “negative disposition”, as you call it. Why? To be honest, I have no clue. Somewhere down the line I just stopped giving a muck.

I would say it's nature. From my experience, people who went through REAL, true struggles in life have been very humble and content and just genuinely love people around them. It's always the ones who rant over little stuff that I find tend to hate on everyone.

mere suggestion that others are 'negative' is in itself a negative disposition of the person pointing it out.......

Then by your argument, what right does one have to judge the judger?

And making an observation is different than judging someone - the first can be objective.

Various reasons for negative dispotions

Weighed down by bad luck/fate - one catastrophe after another - till person loses any signs of positivity
Envy/jealousy
Ambition without putting in the work to achieve the goal
Inherent nature
Combo of all of above - as DC6 said

I think some people are just aadat say majboor...meaning like Southie said, inherant nature. I'm sure we all can think of someone in our sphere of influence who seemingly has if all...health, wealth, family etc, but still is a bitter curmudgeon...for no reason whatsoever. Somethings just defy logic...so you just have to shrug it off and move on
