Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

Freshly graduated engineers, lawyers, etc. do not get lucrative jobs as soon as they graduate. Most of them only get apprenticeships which can hardly pay for your living expenses.

Doctors face similar situation. You graduate and have to get housejob with tough working conditions and minimal pay. This is not much different than, for example, what civil engineers get when they are normally required to be present at construction sites all day and are paid a pittance. Eventually the doctors who work hard and establish themselves well are some of the richest professionals in the country. And if things are so bad, why become a doctor in the first place?

Why do you compare the salary of a recent medicine graduate in USA with the salary in Pakistan if you do not compare the cost of training to become a doctor in these countries as well? You are essentially given free education in Pakistan whereas you’d be reeling under student debt for years into your professional career.

Those who are admitted to medical college face a rigorous five-year curriculum with lectures, practical demonstrations, hands-on work and a huge (and ever expanding) body of knowledge to master.

After graduation and a one-year ‘house job’ in whichever hospital their medical college is attached to, newly minted doctors find that they are basically cast aside and left to fend for themselves. There are few job opportunities that pay enough to marry and raise a family and even fewer which would allow a young doctor to save money to educate themselves further. The lure of the West is a constant presence but Western countries have their own system of licensing and certification which can be a time-consuming, expensive process. In addition, most Pakistani doctors, especially from outside the bigger cities, lack basic English language skills and are thus poorly positioned to enter the medical profession in the English-speaking world.

In more advanced societies where educational and social research is the norm, there is at least some effort to link ‘higher’ (ie college or university) education to the existing job market. In the US, this guides efforts by educators to channel students into vocations which are expected to be in demand in the near to medium term. In addition, in most Western countries, ‘technical’ or ‘vocational’ education is better organised and does not carry the social stigma that it does in Pakistan. Jobs for electricians, plumbers, car mechanics, etc require specific technical skills but no college degree and pay a livable wage…

Abhi bulata hu PCG ko… :emmy:

Well, i think its becuz they spend a looooooooooong time. And the journey starts after studying crazily and getting realy good %age. So daactaar babu do expect a lot.
But one thing is for sure, they spend wayy less money as compared to (majority of) rest of the world. Also, i’ve noticed a clear difference b/w an average medical freshup doctor in pak to the one here in US. I really see the competence here. But i may be wrong in this comparison so dont shoot me

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

The story is quite simple.

If the profession doesn't pay, and you are the smartest people in the country, why choose this profession?

Its just that it takes a little time for doctors to start getting returns on their hard work but it seems the patience of young doctors runs out quickly after graduating. They want instant rewards.

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

Believe me this was never happened till late seventies when doctors' profession was considered as noble profession. Doctors graduated then were real doctors not butchers of the day. They kill patients day in and day out with their poor knowledge of medical profession, no one has ever sent to jail for killing patients who perhaps survive for many years before they meet such doctors. They have all become 'haram khors', like most of the nation, why should they be singled out as they are part of system.

Most smart doctors do not want to serve in the country. They want to live in America. How much they struggle and spend millions to achieve this, you just can not imagine. Only dumb and dumber who can not go to America (most of them) remain in the country and kill the patients but demanding pay scale of a intern who works in American hospitals.

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

the time that a pakistani doctor spends to become doctor is comparable to the time an engineer spends to become an engineer in pakistan. 12 yrs of school (till Fsc or A level) + 5 yrs of medical school vs 12 yrs of school (till Fsc or A level)+ 4 yrs of engineering degree.

In USA, it is different. 12 yrs of school + 3-4 years of undergrad in relevant subject (biology, chemistry etc) + 4-5 years of medical school. So an American doctor spends way too much time to become a doctor vs a Pakistani or an Indian doctor.

plus a Pakistani doctor pays pretty reosnable fees for the medical school in rs whereas an american doctor has 250K+ school loans by the time he finishes the medical school. All a pakistani doctor has to do is to pass this USMLE exam and become part of usa medical system. what a deal!

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

Pakistani doctors are best. They diagnose patient very efficiently. The general physicians in Pakistan are not less than any specialist of US trained doctors.
Education cost of US trained doctors is expensive, and insurance companies making money, pharmaceutical companies earn money on brand name products. Healthcare system is very very expensive in US than Pakistan.

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

healthcare is a business in USA/Canada, and insurance is heavily involved.
they can't diagnose illnesses, keep sending people for more and more tests, hence those labs make money, with their crappy employees who can't even conduct testing properly (specially filipinos, and others who are too rough and unsympathetic with nervous clients).......its a big big business....doctors don't want to give right medicine as they want them to come to them again and again for co-pay and insurance.....

Doctors are much better at diagnosis in Pakistan than here.....here they treat people like processing cattle.....in and out quickly so they can see many patients.....the long wait times for anything hospital related is well known for Canada....

Unfortunately everyone wants money, even the doctors. Those who go in it for helping humanity are rare these days.
Same as any other professions

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

Are you complaining about docs living in pakistan or pakistani docs practicing elsewhere or any doctor with a pakistani heritage?

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

Healthcare is better in Pak than US? Are you serious?

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

This is not such a stretch. In the US, if you have Healthcare insurance, you probably get better healthcare. If you don't, you are out of luck.

Re: Why do Pakistani doctors complain so much?

Kakaballi fresh engineers job is not as hard as fresh doctors, during my house job, I used to work 36 hours straight then 12 hours break, then again 36 hours straight, some surgical specialities had 56 hours straight duty without break, on top of that you are expected to study, cope with stressful work environment and constantly have to live with the thought that your mistake could be fatal.
