its wrong for both men and women to gossip....but since its normally women who gossip(hence the reason most of them will be in hell)....then it looks gayish when men do it....cuz normally women are known to do it

to me networking means you form connections to progress socially or for your career.

I can't see how telling one person about another is gonna help you to accomplish either.

Men gossip for info. (powerful tool) you get info from gossiping and then use it later on,

for example if you know someone who is friends with a potentiol client etc. you can talk to this person and find out if the guy is on the take or his style etc. and then when you are negociating you can use that to your advantage.

however, having said the above. personal gossip or bad mouthing is wrong. you should never do it nor you should be a part of it.

If we are going by stereotypes on gossiping per gender, the major difference is spite. Men do not gossip out of spite or any ill will - stereotypically of course. Women however do according to the stereotype. Women gossip to spread rumors and wreck havoc.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. That easily is linked with gossiping. It is supposedly a powerful tool in the female social circle to defame someone they do not like.

Secondly me and my friends on the face of it gossip. But in reality it is us sharing information about our friends. Me and another friend have odd hours - he is in the Orient i am in the US. So we use our EU based friends to convey information say about his engagement or my work etc. Not gossip but keeping each other informed.

Btw how do you define gossip?

What you described that women stereotypically do, spread rumours and ruin each others reputations, is considered gossiping..

I went to an all girls high school and in rleigion class we all had this example.. which is worse, looking at porn, or spreading rumuors/lies about someone. Maj of girls said porn was worse , and that gossiping was okay.. Kinda tells u somethin dontcha thinK

I'm with Sara on the description of gossiping.
Sharing information because you want to know how someone is doing is one thing; shows you care about them.....but wanting to know the sordid details in soap opera fashion and then passing them along to your buddy cuz he wants a piece of it too is just stupid.

I used to think that this trait was shared by women alone. I am so wrong.

I can understand a woman with little to nothing on her mind, no responsibilities and no inclination to improve her position falling into the trap....but men?

And those too that have full-time jobs, are furthering their studies in part-time school and also have some level of responsibiltiy towards their familes or parents.

Why? Don't you have anything better to do? Don't you feel badly about coming across some information and then passing it along to someone that is either unrelated or someone that can cause further damage?

he gets it from his mama...(you learn from ur parents) plain and simple...guys who gossip dont consider it gossip just a talk over a beer/juice/lunch ahh beer lol...but yeah most people dont know gossipin is haraaaaaaaaaaaaaaam...control urges people...

I think men gossip because once upon a time they could say anything and everything and get away with it, but now they cannot do that so they gossip!
