Re: Why do men go bald and not women
Both MMo3 and Nescio are right and not mutually exclusive.
Scalp is a different skin than rest of the body because of receptor modulation differences.
Scalp of men who lose hair than those who do not, have higher androgenic activity. Antiandrogenic chemicals have been used for hair growth.
Roughly speaking:
Androgens= growth of hair in various parts of body but loss of hair at scalp.
Estrogen= Growth of hair at scalp
When BP medication minoxidil was used, people grew more hair. Later it was found that it has some anti-androgenic activity. Sprays of minoxidil are still available but the benefit is not long lasting and hair which grow are small and weak.
Its the sign of 'maleness' to lose hair.....:-)
Note: I did not say 'manliness'.
