Why do Desi's do it?

This is a phenomenon that is not exclusive to those of us in the West but I’m sure many people have experienced it to different degrees.

Why do Desi's stare at you?

They look as if you’ve murdered their mom or something.

It’s really annoying and moreover uncomfortable.

I can understand why a girl would stare at a guy or vice versa but this is something totally different.

I know the staring thing is deep rooted in some people and it's a genetic defect that can not be corrected. I know people who went the un-staring boot camp. They were placed in extreme conditions where they had to wear blindfolds while watching a movie and a desi person passes the screen (but the blindfolds failed everytime)
They were also put through an extreme regimen of watching fish in a fish tank for 36 hours at a time to learn how the fish looks back at people in such a non-chalant manner.

But nothing seems to work for these people.

I have come up with a few explanations.

~ You owe them money from a past life
~ You did murder their mom in a past life
~ You are related to them from some family tree that was uprooted to make room for a shopping Plaza in Pakistan/India/Bangladesh or any other brown country.
~ They probably recognize you as the person who is the great great great great great grandson of their granfather.

Plz feel free to add your own.

Share your experiences - they cost you nothing but will make us all richer.

Here in U.S. when I go shopping and find a person/y staring at us, I stare back at them for a few seconds making sure I make eye contact for sec or two. Not to make a face like what is the reason for their existance?

I was amazed when I went to Pakistan last time, I was in a rickshaw and passing thru Sadar, Karachi. For some reason I sensed that majority of the people were looking in one direction. Majority were also men on the road, sidewalk, etc. I turned my head, as I was taking in the sights thru the right side of the rickshaw, and look to my left side and saw the same thing. Turned my eye forward and saw four ladies crossing the road. It was the most unforgetable memories I have of going to Pakistan. That was in '82. I doubt things have changed much.

I think they are trying to figure out ‘Is that a desi?!’
