Could be :
1- People like what others have
2- White people getting tanned, shows they have enough money to travel to exotic places and get tanned.
3- Brown people wanting to be white, shows they work in offices and have white collar jobs , so they spend most of their time indoors.
4- Brown people of the subcontinent were ruled by White people , so white holds a sense of superiority.
Just my opinion, not facts in any way

simple…to fit in with the crowd he/she moves with. they wanna blend in, at least demeanor wise.

What’s worse? Whitewashing yourself in a portrait or actually bleaching your skin? If this can make headlines, then don’t Beyonce and Nicki Minaj and the like also deserve to feature on the news?

Beyonce actually looked browner at the Grammys last night I thought.. I don’t think she actively tries to bleach.. she seems lighter or darker depending on the weather, lighting or whatever imo.. To me she looks comfortable in her own skin, loves glamming up but also going more naturel sometimes..
