Why do batsmen always get all the glory?

It’s the same with football strikers.

I feel sorry for bowlers/defenders who work just as hard, but get half the recognition.

(Pathan sooooo deserved to be MOM today :bummer: )

And you opened up a thread for this?

Oye ullu… One days are over. Go back to Life 1,2, and 3 and discuss your hair and nails.

Come back in 2007 for the World Cup.

See you in General.

I’ve got 5 weeks with nothing to do so I’m gonna be glued to ARY/KK over the test series :hula: Plus, girls annoy me after a bit, I prefer spending my time with guys (and what better place than KK!)

Anyway, it was a serious question that deserved a serious answer. I’m gonna make sure none of my sons become bowlers/defenders :snooty:

So are you saying that stalwarts of cricket such as Keith Miller, Malcolm Marshall, Micjael Holding, Joel Garner, Richard Hadlee, Dennis Lillee, Imran Khan, Waseem Akram, Waqar Younis, Shane Warne, and Muralitheran are not worth becoming?

In one-days a batsman has a slight advantage but only if he scores a century. A bowler who gets a few wickets and scores 30 odd run can also get an MVP. Test matches are won by bowlers because you have to get 20 wickets to win a test.

Sobi, I think you are ready for watching a test match for five days without missing a single ball. I did that about 18 odd years ago.

Good thread Sadi.
I think it is a batsman game soecially ODIs,All the rules are tilted in batsman's favour, and it is e little unfair to bowler.

One such example is today.. I thought Irfan was deservign MoM and it was given to Laxman.
Same happened in peshawar ..when SHabbir deserved it,it was given to Yasir.

Fungi, Yeh, but those are cricketing greats. I'm talking about ur average bowler in your average international match. If you were to ask a fan to name the team, chances are that the first few names they will mention will be batsmen. I think a batsman's game is more enthralling than a bowlers, which is probably why the bowlers are sometimes forgotten about.

I've actually already seen a full 5 day (well it ended up being a 4 day) test match, ball to ball (including one day at Edgebaston cricket ground). Remember England thrashing Sri Lanka's ass in summer 2002? I was there

Exactly!

Irfan deserved it rightly so the MoM - neva mind - he will get in coming days.

but you know what i am, myself a regular batsman - so i support the decision of VVS as MoM - hail VVS. :D

yeah todays MOM really surprised me.i was also expecting MOM fro irfan. But as you all know each and every rule in cricket is only for batsman.
No 2 bouncers otherwise it'll call as noball.
if ball goes a bit leg side, given as wide ball.

I agree with sadi and F&B.Bowlers really don't get what they deserve.

Sadi,

Yes it is obvoius that the game has been tilting in favour of batsmen for some time now. The reason is that everywehre in the world in every sport fans like high scoring games. In North America for instance NHL is actively seeking ways to change the rules to generate high scoring games in ice hockey. Soccer is not very popular here because the ultimate score is often 1-0 or 2-1. You will see cricket also go in the direction of making batsmen score more runs and bowlers give up more. Cricket will be very popular in USA if we saw scores like 450-385.
