Thumbs up for PMLN. We have to see if this law actually makes a difference but it has exposed JI, JUI and PTI again. Why is PTI with JI and JUI again?

Waiting for the logic to come. :p PMLN has been a pleasant surprise lately with this bill, taking on mulla diesel and likes, hanging Qadri, action agains TTP etc. Better than expected.
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
This law was needed, State have to come to rescue...yes religuon have given women good protection but today religion is limited to friday prayers or utmost fasting in Ramazan...
Good going...let JUI. JI AND pti oppose it as much as they luke...apparently they oppose anything in favor of common and under- privileged
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
The only time PTI and PML agreed on a bill was the increase of salaries! lol
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
Can you please actually post actual verified article (not a blog with one liner) that confirms this news?
You wouldn't find any because there isn't any.
Bit of common sense hint. The Bill was approved "unanimously". So in parliamentary language, you should really know what that means, ie it was not opposed at all in the House.
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
At least Imran is consistent on that . This is from 2006
Imran Khan rejects Hasba, women rights bills - Newspaper - DAWN.COM
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
Unanimously also means that only the members ‘present’ said yay
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
A quick read through - no where in the article it suggests that PTI had voted against the notion which is the only practical option available to register your opposition. If a party does not use its vote to oppose a Bill, then what on earth “strongly opposing” mean? Really?
Actions speak louder than words. Parliamentary debates & bickering cannot be used for pathetic propaganda over such sensitive topics.
The Bill was approved unanimously without any opposition and that’s the bottom line.
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
I whole-heartedly support the bill. PTI wrong to oppose it. PML-N has taken some very bold steps of late. Refreshing to say the least. Credit where it is due. The women's bill and hanging of Qadri

They haven't 'opposed' it man. You are from UK, you know how the British Parliament works (the system Pakistan follows).
When a Bill is presented, MPs do a lot of counter arguing and raise flags on various issues so any loopholes can be identified and rectified before the Bill becomes an Act. Despite the counter opposition in the House on various clauses- if the Bill is generally good, they vote in favour of the Bill.
You can't say that so and so MP stood up in the House, raised flags on so and so clause, so that means the entire party 'opposed' the Bill.
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
Ok got your point. A fair argument
I support the bill. About time we ignored bigots in our society
Much more needs to be done wrt extremism and human rights etc. but it seems that Pak is heading in the right direction.
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
I must also add that a lot of Bills do not become Acts in Pakistan. A Bill is meaningless unless it does not become an Act (Law), and passing the Bill or Resolution is always the easiest thing to do.
A lot feel good Bills are passed for public consumption, and the gullible public thinks it becomes a law or something which is not true at all. Punjab assembly had passed numerous anti child labour, anti rape and anti harassment Bills in the past, but how many of them have become Acts and Reforms with immediate effects?
This Bill has a strong chances of becoming an Act, and I hope it does become one indeed, and more importantly, it gets implemented.

Should Sharmeen Obaid get some credit for this?

Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
Yes, it needs to be an Act / Ordinance and most importantly, IT NEEDS TO BE ENFORCED. Pakistan has all sorts of laws that the police doesn't enforce just like how the police in the South looked the other way (or even participated) in the lynching of blacks which was "against the law" as well.
As for Diesel, he needs to be put in a burka and then honor killed.

good luck with "enforcement" in that country, where anything is for sale
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
Imran has not openly opposed this bill but the condition he has put forward to support this bill effectively means that he is against it.
It is actually unbelievable to think that Imran would say so. He is saying that his support hinges on decision by the one and only CII. Yes, that Sheerani from Council of Islamic Ideology, which many people think should be abolished; is the one on whom Imran is depending.
If it is true then it is correct to say that Imran has opposed this bill.
Protection from domestic violence hinges on CII, Imran tells women - The Express Tribune
May 9, 2016
PESHAWAR: The draft of the domestic violence bill will be presented in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly once the Council of Islamic Ideology’s (CII) advice is received on whether it complies with Islamic injunctions.
This was said by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan at an International Women’s Day event held at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Peshawar on Tuesday.
“The CII will review the draft and suggest whether it complies with the Holy Quran and Sunnah,” he said.
Sheerani is someone who has given such outrageous statements in the past that many sections of population, including DAWN, have asked to wither away with it altogether.
And yet Imran makes Sheerani the litmus test to accept or reject a women’s protection bill.
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
While this food for thought above was given by Imran on Mar 9, his friend Sherani had said on Mar 3 that not only is this bill unislamic, but also that everyone supporting is a ‘traitor’ (Article6).
Women’s Protection Law against Constitution,Shariah: CII chief
ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani has declared.
Muhammad Anis adds: CII Chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani said Article 6 of the Constitution should be invoked where a law against the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah is passed.
Following is an example of what kind of person this Sherani guy is, on whom Imran is relying to make a judgment on this bill:
Maulana Sheerani, Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology, in his latest statement to the press announced that he intended to discuss three important issues in the meetings.
-
Deciding whether Ahmadis are non-Muslims or murtids (apostates) -
Imposing jizya on non-Muslims -
Determining which sects fall under Islam
Re: Why did PTI oppose the women protection bill?
I wonder whether Imran asked for Sherani's opinion about women dancing in his rallies. :)
After all, I have seen this example being given several times by PTI folks to prove Imran's liberal credentials.
