A topic for discussion. Some wanted to talk about insurgent movements going on in India. How many are there active and a threat to the integrity of this state? The biggest challenges independent India faced were from North East,Punjab and Kashmir. North East is almost settled.Punjab terrorism was `beheaded’ with no mercy and as regards to Kashmir insurgency,it’s spinal chord has been crushed forever.
Now the only threat is from maoists. They are not calling for any seperate state but the recent operations against them have snared/killed many of their top most leaders.
What could be the reasons behind the failiure of every insurgent/terrorist movement in India?
Re: Why did not a single insurgency movement succeed in India?
Kashmir has been going on for 30 years now. I am sorry that is half the existence of India. If that isn't a serious issue....i have no idea what to say.
Re: Why did not a single insurgency movement succeed in India?
Arleitter, could you enlighten us?
CM, we should admit that Kashmir issue would not have lived so far if Pakistan was not involved.
For me, Indian security forces concentrating on their job and not interfering with business of the state or business for that matter, has been one of the reasons why the country's integrity is largely intact. Devolution of political powers to individual states of the country is perhaps another reason. Local issues are dealt with, locally.
Re: Why did not a single insurgency movement succeed in India?
Furthermore i cant see any successes against insurgency either it's an ongoing thing we wont find any winners or losers becuase there never are any...
Besdes many insugencies could say they have achieved some objectives while many could counter claim from the security forces as having made great successes too... inreality no one has succeeded in anything except the arms dealers and the morticians.

why hasnt a single insurgency movement been quashed in india out of 300 plus??now indians are begging kashmiris so that commonwealth games can go smooth.they are not fools.more wise then u are and its a movement for independence from indian occupation that was facilitated by the imperial british crown.
Re: Why did not a single insurgency movement succeed in India?
Lack of foreign pressure on India has to do a lot because of India's political position against China and India's growing middle class with buying power.
Secondly, Khalistan movement was the only movement that was wiped off india's soil. Kashmir and other small movements are surviving and keeping India busy for quite long now. U can not call a movement unsuccessful unless its been wiped off.
btw, dont forget the part BB played in wiping of the Khalistan movement. Without the help of Pakistan, India would have had hard time even eliminate Khalistan movement.

Weapons for Punjab insurgency were provided from Pakistan. Pakistan cut off weapons supply to Khalistanis after they saw the map of Khalistan.

Sikhs had Lahore as capitol of Khalistan, latter they changed the map but it was too late Pak had already made up its mind. If it wasn't for Lahore Khalistan was a reality.

Thats true of not only India but basically any country in the world. With advances in weaponery, the state has become too powerful for people to tople. Insurgency only succeeds if its backed by a superpower, ensuring constant supply of weapons and political pressures internationally.
Re: Why did not a single insurgency movement succeed in India?
It is only a matter of time India is cracking up there is no way the underclass is going to take the growing divide of rich and poor and minorities who see an unfair system in place.
end result is an inevitable fragmentation of the state.

Simple. Insurgents in India were few in number going up againt a country of a Billion. They were murdered in cold blood by Indian terrorists. Without any external support, its difficult for any movement to gain traction.

What makes you think the Kashmiris have been silenced?
You keep beating them into submission, they still rise again to spit in your eye.
By the way, are you really trying to legitimize the mass genocide you Indians have committed in Kashmir?
