This incident definitely proves that India has become a puppy dog of USA...India,the worlds biggest "Sham Democracy"...It would have been a different thing if India would have taken this decision on its own,not after US senators lashed Indian Foreign Minister in the senate....
^ They have changed color in the same manner as they did for Kashmir........ Manmohan wold have had some flattering in America and he got flattered. Cheap mind......
o bhai logo, it was in india's interests to do whatthey did, now whether or not they had pressure is a diff thing, but every country does what is in its interests. why be surprised.
It would be foolish for a country to proceed down a path just because that is the path they were following without assessing how it falls in liune with their own strategic interests.
Phoenix and a few others seem passionate about the "principled stand" remark and have provided a lot cut&paste. Such passion is good but in this case they have mistakenly assumed which principle is involved.
Pride is not the principle. Lantos is a puppy dog yelping that nobody pays any attention too - in fact most of you, as most of America, hadn't heard of Lantos till this. It's like some MLA from Nagpur or some b-town waxing eloquent on what Greenspan ought to do.
Quid pro quo is definitely involved - sure. but that's trade, not principle.
So what's left? just what the action tells you - India doesn't want Iran to have it under current circumstances even while it doesn't want US to esalate matters at this point, against Iran.
Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran met Iran’s Ambassador to India Siavash Zargar Yaghoubi on Tuesday and informed him that New Delhi had tried to act in Iran’s interests in the International Atomic Energy Agency governing board on Saturday. According to diplomatic sources, Mr. Yaghoubi told Mr. Saran that Teheran was very disturbed by India’s stance. It was surprising that a founder of the Non-Aligned Movement such as India had voted against another member nation like Iran, Mr. Yaghoubi reportedly said.
India is trying to woo the Western powers.. In isolating Iran, it can be seen as a responsible member of the Nuke club.. Ethics and Morals never go so far in global politics.
//That's why people say, don't take indians as friends they can change colours anytime....//
And it took only one phone call from powell welcome US and ditch Taliban....
Talk about changing colours.
//What principled stance? India has an inherent right to Nukes while Iran doesnt? This is hypocricy not principle..//
India is a responsible member of the nuclear like some of our neighbours whose scientists are under house arrest on charges of proliferation. With fundamentalists at the helm in Iran, it would only be a matter of time before the technology falls into the wrong hands...
While I think that India was trying to make the best of being between the devil and the deep sea, the statement above is inaccurate.
Iran, unlike India or Pakistan has signed the nuclear treaties. While it does have the right to nuclear energy, it has signed away its right to nuclear arms
