Inshallah! I will try to make this short and within context so to make it easy for the readers.
Allah (SWT) says in Quran: Sura Az-Zariyat verse 56
“WA MA KHALAQ TUL JINN’A WAL INS’A ILLAH LA YA’BUDOON.”
I (ALLAH) have created the Jinn and Humankind only for my worship.
Thus, the essential purpose for which human kind was created is the worship of Allah (SWT). However, Allah (SWT) is not in need of human worship. If not a single human worshipped Allah (SWT), it would not diminish His (SWT) glory in any way, and if all mankind worshipped Him (SWT), it would not increase His (SWT) glory in any way. Allah (SWT) is perfect, He (SWT) is absolute and He (SWT) exists without any needs. Consequently, it is humankind that needs to worship Allah (SWT).
Many people know the word “WORSHIP”, let me try to explain the word “WORSHIP” for the readers, so it will make more sense in understanding our purpose of creation. The word “WORSHIP” is an English word that comes from old English “WEORTHSCIPE” meaning “HONOR”. So worship in English language is defined as “the performance of devotional acts in honor of a deity”. According to this meaning man is instructed to show gratitude to Allah (SWT) by glorifying Him (SWT).
As Allah (SWT) says in chapter An-Nasar verse 3
“FA’SSAB’H BE’HAMDE RABBA’KA”
Glorify the praises of your lord.
In glorifying Allah (SWT) man chooses to be in harmony with the rest of the creation which naturally glorifies its Creator (SWT).
However, very importantly, in the language of Quran, the Arabic, Worship is called “IBAADAH” which is derived from the Noun “ABD” which means, “SLAVE”. So all in all we are Slaves of Allah (SWT). Let us now try to understand the relationship between a slave and his master, obviously the slave (humans) does not have any say so in front of his master (Allah). A slave has to confirm to his master’s will. Now how does a slave confirm to his master’s will, very simple by “SUBMITTING TO THE WILL OF ALLAH”. Which is the meaning of the word “ISLAM”. This was the essence of the message of all prophets sent by Allah (SWT) to humankind. So by now it should become very simple that how do we do “IBAADAH”, we do it by “SUBMITTING TO THE WILL OF ALLAH” which means by following ISLAM.
When we understand this concept of “IBAADAH” then every thing that we will do will confirm to our purpose of creation. That is, when we go earn our living, eat, drink, sleep, wage Jihad, go to our wives, seek education, etc. etc. thus every thing that we do and our entire way of life (political, economic etc.) when conducted according to the teachings of Islam becomes WORSHIP of Allah (SWT). This is why we are created, and this is what will salvage our hereafter and Allah (SWT) will grant to us the eternal life in Paradise for fulfilling his purpose of our creation.
So my dear brothers and sisters in Islam lets seek the truth, the Islam and confirm to our purpose of creation.
Oh Allah (SWT) please, forgive this humble servant of yours for if this servant has made any mistakes in the above text.
