FYI I had come across sites like this: Religious Duties for Women during menstruation period, which is what caused me to think about this question. I guess sites like these are mostly my quranists which the majority of mainstream Muslims are skeptical about but my knowledge of Islam is not strong enough to know the counter argument for such statements, so I was hoping others would know more information to negate or disprove these things.

Sister there will always be ant-Islamic websites, articles etc but you must save your time and keep away from such false anti Islamic websites.

There is no benefit but only harm from reading such deceptive material. You should just concentrate on trying to learn proper Islamic knowledge by joining local Islamic courses.

Concentrate on building and strengthening your insane and keep away from such evil websites.

There are 10 precious days left in this month so make the best of it as this Ramadan maybe our last. We must do sincere worship to try and please Allah and spend the nights in Duas and Tahajjud.

We should cry and beg Allah to forgive us. We should give in charity as much as we can and we should read the Quran with its meanings and ponder over the verses and greatness of Allah.

So do not waste a second more on any anti Islamic website. Make the best of your time before it is gone for death can take us at ANY second!

So obviously my whole life I’ve been told that I can’t pray or fast or touch the quran or go into the masjid for as long as I have my period, but nobody’s ever told me why?

The thing is I thought the point of prayer was to be close to God and 5 times a day show him that you’re grateful to him etc. Considering that you’re supposed to pray even if you’re sick, or travelling or handicapped and you can pray lying down or however possible for a particular situation, why is that the only exemption to praying is when you have your period?

Does anyone have any sources from the quran or hadith that specify this order too?

^So what if a person is hospitalized and keep coming in touch with blood either being drawn out or being given. Aren’t muslims supposed to pray in almost every condition possible even when are on their death bed. Why can’t a woman pray during her periods? Is it just the blood from menstruation that’s impure or blood in general is considered impure?

Shall I give up my prayers?” Allah’s Apostle replied, “No, because it is from a blood vessel and not the menses. So when your real menses begins give up your prayers and when it has finished wash off the blood (take a bath) and offer your prayers.” Hisham (the sub narrator) narrated that his father had also said, (the Prophet told her): “Perform ablution for every prayer till the time of the next period comes .”

@ Hareem: yes I do pray, I have no issues with not praying when I have my period or fasting I just wanted to know, I can barely walk when I have my period let alone pray. But I was just curious because it didn't make sense to me. I'm not sure why its considered impure as well, does anyone know? I mean its not really something one can control? and its a natural part of every woman's life so what is impure about it?

also for those of you sayings its what God has ordered, where is it that he's ordered it? Is it in the Quran or some hadith? I really just want to know.

Also psyah I'm not saying we should question God, so if there's something written in the Quran I'll believe it but I sometimes tend to question society's understanding of it is all. Because unfortunately a lot of times culture gets tied into religion and its hard to know what is accurate and whats not. In this case I've always been told I can't do something, but I've never been told why, or where it says I cant do it, so naturally Im going to question if its actually true or if its just what people think or have known for long.

There are many things that are part of our natural cycles that are impure ... such as the number 1 and number 2 ... also passing wind and condition after sex ... we don't question these ... why do we question the menses being impure?

in the time of our Holy prophet (S.A.W) when women had any problem regarding females they go to Hazrat Aisha(R.A) umulmomineen n she told them the solution...means women din't ask any thing personal to our prophet.
as far as your question is concerened...i'll ask you that can you go near to your loved one when you are with some ugly sort of condition???same is the case with Allah that if your any loved one will not allow you to go near him then how He 'll do so...now if you still feels me nerrow minded then i admit that i m.

^indeed you are narrow minded. We all are here trying to share our knowledge of religion to each other, and trying to understand the basics of our religion. Im not sure if you are aware but if an islamic scholar (male) is suppose to know about these things then did you ever think why? SO HE CAN SHARE AND GUIDE! and since men dont have menses they are obviously going to with women who get period.

I don't understand this pov that one should question things that are said in the religion?! WHY? Allah does not ask for blind followers or does he?

People ask why because too many people have imposed their own beliefs and interpretations onto the religion. There is no harm in asking questions if it is to seek knowledge and truth, and to push aside man-made reasoning and interpretations.

If you read the Hadith, you will see that the Prophet (SAW) would still be near his wives and in their company when they had their periods.

It is not right for people to make women to feel ashamed and ugly during their periods. Allah SAW does not reject us during our periods. It is a natural cleansing that the body goes through.

The Blood which comes out is not pure and it can cause disease too will any wife want her husband to get sick because of her I don't think soo;)

i don’t want to argue any more n also can’t leave it without answering…i hve read the refrence but it shud be clear to you when our umhaat-ul-momineen had any prob why they consult to our prophet???the reason is that at that time islam was not so much spread n except ambias there was no one who had enough knowledge so they had to ask our porphet(S.A.W) but now the situation is entirely changed…okay let it be here just tell me that your daughter or sister ask you except askin to their mum or sis then what will you say???

If you are asking behind a curtain even then the person who they ask to will know them.

You know, I don't know exactly why we aren't supposed to pray/fast during our periods, but the cynic in me does think it is a convenient way for patriarchal societies to exclude women from religious leadership and involvement.

I will not have any problem with that , they might . Asking on a forum where nobody knows you is also like asking behind a curtain , in fact it is better than asking behind the curtain because here nobody knows who you are so they are comfortable asking and people are comfortable replying. If you are asking behind a curtain even then the person who they ask to will know them.
