Why are we not grateful to Allah swt for our life, our health, our jobs, our food? Why do we (I am including myself in this as well) so focused on small and petty issues that we forget to appreciate the bigger things in life?
I heard about 3 incidents today that just shocked me and made me realize how blessed I am and yet not happy.
My husband’s neighbor shot himself because he lost his job and could not support his family anymore. He didn’t die and has been taken to the hospital. Noone knows what condition he’s in. He was jobless since a year now and couldn’t take it anymore.
Today my husband saw two cases in ICU:
This really young girl, in mid teens and very smart one, was walking with her mother to school today. This one car crashed into another one which spun out of control, killed the girl’s mother on the spot and hit the girl so hard that she went flying and hit her face right into the fire hydrant. I don’t want to elaborate on what her condition is now because I am sure you guys can guess. She’s still in ICU and doesn’t even know her mother is no more.
This guy was with his wife in the car (who was driving it), something must have happened and they got into a heated argument, she said something like I don’t want to be with you and I am going to kill myself, and the guy jumped out of the car to attempt suicide while ON THE HIGHWAY and got hit by another car. He’s now paralyzed in the hospital.
All that made me just so so so sad. I can’t ever imagine my life without my mom, I can’t imagine what it will be like if I wasn’t able to move tomorrow or if I had a family to support but had no job It’s depressing. After listening to all that, I cannot even imagine complaining about anything! How my day was so tiring or certain people on GS are pissing me off or why was Transformers sold out last night.. if this is how we deal with the regular problems in our lives, what will we do when (may Allah swt forbid) we get hit with bigger things and tests from him? Everyday in your life, please take out just a few minutes to thank the Almighty for giving us so much which we don’t even deserve. Shukr Alhumdulillah.
May Allah swt instill in us the blessed qualities of sabr and shukr. infact i was once reading a book and it said there's actually nothing to do 'sabr' about cos if we realize whatever state we are in we should be grateful cos it can be much much worse..
