It’s to do with how secular people are … some although live in secular countries their conditions are not secularised … Muslims are like this … although Muslims in their non-secular outlook are prone to religious sectarianism as you stated. However non-religious sectarianism is present in the West … civil conflicts in the west are based on this … some are linked to religious affiliations, such as in Ireland, but it is more political than religious.
In fact religion is often hijacked in south east asia to move masses of people against other masses … religion is the tool that lobbies support but is also the mask that protects the real powermongers from scrutiny … people end up blaming religion instead of the people who orchestrate the conflicts.
