Why are some people so against others doing well?

What is it about society that makes this happen?

This includes your friends trying to put you down.

Why can’t people just be happy for others instead of hating on someone cause they broke through the barrier which you couldn’t. Is it just jealousy?

Some people have no way to measure their true happiness.
So they measure it by other people.

So if other people are less happy, more miserable, that give them illusion they are better off.

Jealousy. Some people are just more troubled by others’ happiness than their troubles.

Along with jealousy, I think it’s because some people are terribly unhappy and want other people to be as unhappy as they are. As the saying goes, “misery loves company.”
