I am watching the Germany v Ghana game on ITV and it is clear to me that they want Germany to lose. Even if they are trying their best to be neutral, they are not doing a very good job of it, are they?
Some of them were making fun of Maradona’s hopping and bouncing around on Argentina’s sideline against Greece. I know he has a very peculiar style of celebrating goals but they should atleast appreciate the genius that is Maradona. It is almost like they have a personal grudge against him and Argentina (and Germany)
And some ‘pundits’ were mocking Algeria and Slovenia’s defensive style of play in the papers almost belittling these nations. But it is not like England play very attractive and exciting football themselves. Two goals in three games is hardly the performance of a team which is hyped up by their media and fans to be world-beaters which they clearly aren’t. And this performance despite being in a relatively easy group; USA, Algeria and Slovenia are all average teams that one would expect a top international side such as Brazil or Argentina to beat easily … and believe you me they WILL. So does it mean that english players too are limited in the extreme?
Every day there is a new face or namoona on the Television giving their ‘expert’ views on the games…names that you have never even heard of before. Most of these ‘legends’ were probably just ok club footballers of their time, certainly not proven performers at international level…apart from a few ofcourse such as Lineker and Shearer. And it is not like other teams’ players and managers give two hoots about their opinions
It will be the same story again. Ghana (if the score stays the same) are more than capable of beating England in the next round
There are atleast 6 teams that are clearly better than England in his world cup - Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Holland and Ghana.
