Re: Why are so many couples opting for "Open Marriage"?
why even bother getting married...? the whole point of marriage is u making a committment to ONE person..if ur going to go through all that and sleep around anyway..why do it?
and i dont think its noble in anyway..it simply means you obviously dont care about the other person at all..no matter how open minded i get..being with someone who wants to be with other people at the same time is not my idea of a relationship.its a slap in the face for me..as i am not enough for that person..
and no way is it courageous!!! its an easy option for weak minded people who feel they need to keep their options open..nothing courageous about it at all..its a lot more hard work staying faithful to one person.
Web definitions for open mortgage

just like this people can get out of marriage without penalty
Re: Why are so many couples opting for "Open Marriage"?
My initial reaction was to say this is not a part of the South Asian culture - it's more a western thing and doesn't touch people from our community, but then I remembered my sister's friend telling the story of when she was being to introdcued to eligible guys. She met a guy who said to her that he expected her to be "free" with his friends. The example he gave was sitting in a hottub with other couples - so it could happen.
As to why it happens, it's because the couple doesn't respect the sanctity of marriage.
She did - but it was shocking that a supposedly Muslim guy (who was being introduced through an arranged setting) would think that way and say something like this.
Re: Why are so many couples opting for "Open Marriage"?
What the heck is this..."so many" couples engaging in open marriage? Where? Who? I've heard of the concept and know what it is. And while I'm not an overly social person with a huge circle of friends, I do know lots of people. NONE of whom would ever indulge in such sociopathic behavior. I met one couple who one time engaged in some sort of trade-for-a-night and it caused nothing but heartache and very nearly divorce.
I'd like to know where this is coming from...do you actually know these people who do these things? Do you watch too much "Desperate Housewives" perhaps? Or am I looking at the world with rose-colored glasses as I've sometimes been known to do?

Well said. I wanted to say something about this 'so many' also.
If you read threads or posts by OP you will get the idea more.
