why are people against medication for mental health/psychological issues?

Re: why are people against medication for mental health/psychological issues?

I agree with this.

OP, if you’re going to be a doctor soon, I think you should already be aware of all the side effects of neurological drugs. Western allopathic medicine has mostly become just about treating the symptoms of any disease, both because the medical systems do not want to put in the time effort and also because patients just want a quick fix. This coupled with the fact that drug companies are some of the most profitable in the world and are notorious for pushing drugs for approval and playing down side effects. When it comes to neurological diseases especially, we should be extra cautious. It’s also highly disturbing that we are medicating children for things like ADHD so much just because parents cannot cope.

Off this topic but still relavent, take for example the overuse of antibiotics which is causing so many problems now. In countries like the UK, doctor’s don’t prescribe them as readily as they did 20 years ago but in developing countries like Pakistan, it’s way too prolific. What irks me most is that they are prescribed when they won’t even work just because the doctor cannot be bothered (or to be more fair, don’t have the time in the 10 minute slots) to investigate fully and it’s WAY too common. I was given antibiotics for an infection and they did zilch, so I did my own investigation and asked for a specialist consult, turned out no amount of antiobiotics would have done me any good and I needed surgery. I’m certain had I not investigated, the GP would have kept pushing antibiotics because of her lack of knowledge in the area. Forward to more recently, to a different complaint, different doctor and very strong antibiotics that gave me uvula ulcers and oesophageal inflammation but otherwise did absolutely nothing for me. I know from reading around that in most cases the doctors will keep pushing these very strong antibiotics with some people taking them for a year with no improvement. This time I have decided to self treat with information I have found on the internet and in papers… it’s all pretty simple stuff and natural with what I can tell, very high success. It screams that doctors just don’t understand the cause so just try and cover up the symptoms with drugs as instructed. But if all a person has to do is take a certain dose of a vitamin or mineral daily to cure them, where are the drug companies going to make their profits?
