Bcoz we don't have enough gas in the country to run everything on gas, inudstry, household, cars, public transport, electricity production. Is there any other country in the world doing this?

Its rationing basically. There is not enough supply according to the government to meet the demand for CNG. However according to the view of the layman is not true. Most Pakistanis believe the entire rationing set up has been created to jack up prices and create an unnatural shortage.

An example most people use is that of ramzan. For a full month you rarely have a shortage save for electricity but even then its less than normal periods.

A vast majority these days. Petrol now is roughly a dollar a liter and that is way to expensive for 90% of the country. Additionally with CNG you get better mileage on the smaller cars like the Suzukis et al. CNG is cheaper, cost effective and gives you better mileage. So all private modes of transportation choose it over petrol.

Also Pakistan is the only country I know where petrol prices are increasing domestically when international prices are falling.

Petrol prices are going up in the USA, too. Diesel was $4.39 a gallon yesterday, which equals $1.16 per liter.

Don't cars have to be converted specially to run on CNG?

Yup they do. They have to get an additional CNG kit and the engine has to be rewired. You can have both petrol and gas in a car.

I used to have a small pickup that ran on propane. Only problem was that there was no gas gauge, so I had to be very careful to keep an eye on the mileage, otherwise I'd run out of gas and have to be towed, because you can't just put propane in a can and walk back to your vehicle. Having the option of running on both would have been helpful!
