Imam Al-Ghazali is explaining how ‘character’ is found. We need to see a person who does good acts that may be a person who is of good character, but if he is being made to do the good act by force or without knowledge that it is good, then we need to look for more information.
So the next thing is to look at the ability so by not being pushed into it is the person acting by himself?
But then he could be doing the good act without force but he may not know why he is doing it he may not be aware that he is doing it and in a different circumstance he does something else.
The last thing is after doing something over and over again it becomes a desire to do it. So if the person does good acts, by himself with no pressure, knows what he is doing and likes it then his character is good.
