why always a bun?

is it neccessary to have a bun or something similar like that on the wedding dayas a bride? i was just wondering why i still didn´t have seen any bride with open hairs. Every brides hairs are behind the dupatta :-S

Wouldn´t it look nice or is it just not traditional?

Re: why always a bun?

alot of girls have different hairstyles now. but one thing iv noticed is when i bride has her hair open or even some hair infornt of her face she never looks sleek in the pix. she will look alittle messy. whereas those who have all their hair slapped back look neater.

Re: why always a bun?

^agreed. it's rare that hair down ever looks nice and put together with a dupatta.. i just think it gets in the way of your jewelry set and everything.

Re: why always a bun?

^^Totally agree with Red Ruby. Many brides are like having a bit of hair peeking out mostly on their valima so they have their hair in a bun with few locks coming out in front but the whole open hair looks quite messy and flat if the dupatta is on the head not to mention hot and sticky.

Found a few threads that discuss open hair looks that might give you ideas and opinions:

i dont like the hairupdo's either...especially not without dupatta.
i wud want my hair loose aswell, but yes the dupatta could be toooo flat coz of that... most pics are with hair down on one side.. not a big fan of that either..

any idea's or pics?

Re: why always a bun?

Well a bun is traditionally worn to help give some 'height' to your dupatta and hold it in place. But as some of the others have mentioned, it's more favoured to leave bits hanging round the front or side. But there is still some height, hence why hair pieces are commonly used.

Re: why always a bun?

I think a bride looks much better with a bun because it looks much more elegant and jewellry/earrings etc can be seen much better and it avoids the messy hair look..plus the dupatta sit's better on a bun rather than loose hair! I prefer the bun look anyday!

Re: why always a bun?

Open hair ends up getting frizzy and messy in all of the festivities, chaos and sometimes humidity as usually weddings are in the summer.

Updos under the dupatta are actually there to help support the weight of our heavy kaam bharay dupattay...and to give the bride a very formal and sleek look.

Ive seen brides with their hair down but by the end of the day...sometimes it gets messed up.
