Faisal, you never have any idea who these people are. :p Start watching some dramas.

and a really good one starring Uzma Gilani, Maria Wasti and a thousand other Pakistani actors will be starting soon. It's called "Maa" and is filmed in England. Looks fantastic!
So, you guys are saying that instead of posting the pics of your five favorite actors - only five - (which will take a max of 10 minutes), you want someone to watch dramas that last hours and hours? In recent times, I have peeked at a few dramas on Prime while doing other work, but I can't place all these names.... With pics here, it will be easier to appreciate your listings. Thats all :)
anybody who's watched any decent PTV dramas must be crying right now at most of the choices made here.
men:
Salim Nasir
Shakeel
Mehboob Alam
Qazi Wajid
Sikander Shaheen
Shujaat Hashmi
Munawwar Saeed
Asif Raza Mir
Subhani Bayounis
women:
Shehnaz Sheikh
Khalida Riyasat
Tahira Naqvi
Badar Khalil
Ghazala Kaifi
Uzma Gillani
Fazeela Qaiser
Marina Khan
sambrialian... maana ke you are stuck in the 80's, but even then, yaar, Munawar Saeed and Sikandar Shaheen?? come on... they are just mediocre, esp Sikandar Shaheen (no variety, nothing). I am surprised you didn't put Muhammad Qavi Khan there too. :)
a couple of things:
1) the point is not that of a specific time period. quality work done in whatever era will be appreciated as such. Alpha Bravo Charlie, Marvi, Dhuwan, Aahan, etc etc were not made in the 80s or even the 70s but they were some of the best dramas PTV aired.
2) Munawwar Saeed was an excellent actor as was Sikander Shaheen. I think you might have seen them in some bad plays. And that can happen to any actor. If actors were judged by a couple of bad decisions, Qavi would also not be the great actor that he is. btw, I just missed him from my list as I'm sure I've missed many other fantastic actors.
3) I think you've said yourself that you haven't seen most of the people being mentioned in this thread. Well, I have and most of them will make fine Bollywood pieces of meat but they certainly are not actors by any definition of the word.
4) I think PTV has realized that there is a good market in North America which they can capture. And they also realize that most Pakistanis in NA are taxi-driver class (I'm not implying that this is you or anyone else here, just a general observation) and will be more attracted to Bollwoodish fantasies (Mehndi, Landa Bazaar, Godfather etc etc) rather than quality stories or natural acting. And therefore, the focus on quality has shifted instead to glamour and cheap harkats.
The drama scene's fortunes have fluctuated for quite some time. There have been good times followed by bad times and the cycle continued. But finally, I think that the Humayun Saeeds, the Dr. Younis Butts and the Seema Ghazals are well on their way to killing Pakistani drama. Innalillaheewailaiheerajiyon.
Well, the precise reason why I was having a hard time with most names in this thread, cz they are all new actors, mostly. I don't have time, now, to follow dramas, except for a few minutes here and there.
The old ones, which you mentioned are those whom I have seen a lot, back then. In fact Munawwar Saeed, Qavi Khan and Mustansar Husain Tarar lived near our place and their sons used to go to the same school as I did. I have watched a lot of their (Saeed and Khan's) dramas, both on PTV and on stage. And I have met them in real life multiple times too. My recollection is that both, Saeed more so, lacked any variety. He would usually do similar roles, and in almost all cases will just be himself. Thats not acting as such. I don't know if it was that the PTV producers would just cast them in similar roles or they themselves preferred the stereotype and considered it safe
Shakeel on the other hand was slightly more versatile... he is in the same mold as Qazi Wajid or Aurengzeb Leghari. While Wajid has done a variety of roles, Shakeel and Leghari usually preferred their own stereotypes.
And none of them would compare, in terms of pure talent, to the likes of Salim Nasir, Shafi Muhammad and Jamshed Ansari.
Having said that, as I said before I haven't seen many new dramas, so I can't say anything about the new faces. May be they are good. May be not.
Mahnoor, nadia khan, amina haq, vinnie and suneeta
Has to be Marina Khan, Badar Khalil, Iman Ali [oh yeah! she's a dud but what looks!], Nadia Jamil [when it comes to acting] and in terms of actors Faisal Rehman is the only one who seems to be delivering consistent performance.
