I think my favourites are South Africa & Australia for the world cup winners of 1999.
otherwise, w.indies, india & pakistan just have a chance of winning!..coz u never know of Pakistani team one week they are losing to the worst team the next they are kickin as*!
Now I've said it before and I'll say it again South Africa! Look South Africa has been winning everything lately. They just won the Mini World Cup the Commenwealth Games. South Africa could suprise everyone and win it all. Proabably in the finals with Australia. But I don't care that much who wins just at least INDIA doesn't win! Pakistan has no chance due to their losing streak. But they didn't really lose to Zimbabwa, it was tied and the dumb fog came so maybe they could have won the test series. Oh well.. I hope Pakistan wins (they wo't though). OH and what happened to that Sri Lanka team they were the champs and now they suck.

But whoever wins the cup, SA is the best one-day team right now.
I would love Pakistan to win, but with the current state of affairs in Pakistan Cricket politics there is no chance of that - the team is just not good enough. There is no way that I can bear to see India win - It was 4 rough years after the 1983 World Cup when every bloody Indian in London would boast about their cricket team - anyway that was a fluke win.
The odds favorites (I am sure the Pakistani team is going to putting their money on it) to reach the Final will have to be South Africa and Australia and then it could go anyway - I would favour the Aussies to clinch it. Also I think the losing semi-finalist will be Sri Lanka and England.
Along with India - the other team that I could not bear winning the World Cup will have to be England - the English will never live it down - They won the football World Cup in 1966 and we still keep on being reminded of it so if they won the cricket world cup I can imagine what it will be like.

the reason is simple:england plays a lot of cricket on their home turfs so they really know how the deck is going to behave.
secondly as someone already suggested that english pitches are tailor made for seamers and the likes of gough,cork,and others can steal it easily from thier oponents anyday.
as for batsmen ,english are book players and likes of stewart .knight,hussain cant be ignored in this case.
but i still vote for pak since no matter what state the affairs it might be in ,pak can clinch it for anywhere :)
i can say this cuz i know the talents the pakis have.....and the knack of coming from behind.

Keeping in mind England has gone in the Cricket World Cup Finals FOUR times but they lost every single time. Could this be their turn?? English grounds are quiet big! so I dont think the Srilankan team would have much of a chance, however srilankan bowlers will be quiet succesful!

What do you mean by Aus. vs. Pak will be one sided. I don't think Aus. can be defeated so easily.. :)just joking. But on the serious side, Aus are not as consistent as SA in usual games. They have an off day at times and can definitely be bitten. To be precise, out of last 15 ODI, they have lost 5. 4 to India(!) and 1 to New Zealand. SA has lost just 3. Two to Lanka and one to England. Last WC we saw almost unbeateable record till they entered knock-out stage. Probably SA has difficulty in 'big' games.
Who knows Bangladesh might win it or even Kenya! haha yeah right!!!!! Now about this Pakistan issue. PAKISTAN IS GOING TO GET TO THE SEMI'S FOR SURE! You know why, because we don't have that grease monkey Sohail as captain. I'm sure they'll have Wasim Akram as the captain for the World Cup after he shows what those Indian's are made out of! Well Akram is Imran Khan Jr. and I know he'll win it for us. (inshallah) or South Africa will win it. They are the team that no one ever thinks about but for some werid reason they always end up winning without notice. Well Pakistan Zindabad!
