Who's your maasi?

Is she your mother’s older sister or younger sister, or either?

Re: Who’s your maasi?

WTH ? :confused:

Re: Who's your maasi?

I am my own maasi.

I guess you forgot the none option. Many of us don't take/consider our mothers or sisters or wives as maasis.

Re: Who’s your maasi?

maasi=khala

or

maasi=kaam wali in pak

i think:chai:

Newbie needed some attention by adding some shock value to the thread.

maasi is the same as khala? So that would be mother's sister, and could be older or younger, right? Is maasi Punjabi?

Don't mean to cast any aspersions on your lineage, folks, I'm just tryingt o remember kinship terms.

Re: Who's your maasi?

older,younger, doesn't matter.

Thanks!

Re: Who's your maasi?

yeah if you are talking about khala, then it really doesn't matter if she is younger or older. :)

Anyway, I am curious is the term maasi as in khala still used as the most popular term in punjab for mom's sister or has khala taken over it? I know in my family, we never used the term maasi, we always called my mom's sisters as khala.

My exH used to call me “Chalaaku maasi”…:wink:

Well this thread doesn't belong here

Very sorry if this is on the wrong board. I'm having a little trouble figuring out where to post on different subjects. I thought this was linguistics. Please let me know where the most appropriate board is to ask questions about Urdu and linguistic usage.

Re: Who's your maasi?

Khala=maasi (in punjabi)
Kaam wali=massi (in general)
