New Report Shows Hole in Australia Widens

anberra, Aug. 19 — A new report commisioned by the government of Australia has found that the hole in central Australia has widened, despite reassurances by the Australian government to the contrary. Citing national security concerns, the Australian government, which had previously forbidden the coverage of the hole by its domesic news media, reiterated the ban.
The report concluded that the hole in central Australia will continue to expand at a rapid rate of at least 500 meters (1650 feet) a year. The report also noted that the rate of expansion may double or even triple in the coming years. And it further warned that once the hole, which currently stands at 2 kilometers (1.25 miles), reaches the size of 8 kilometers (5 miles), central Australia will become uninhabitable because of the increased seismic activity. In a speech before the Australian Parliament, Prime Minister Howard struck an optimistic note. “There are many reasons to believe we can beat this thing,” he said. “We have large deserts in Australia. And all deserts are filled with lots of sand. We can use the sand to fill this hole. And we must remember that God is on our side.”
Most Experts, however, seemed to disagree. Sir Liahus Atkins, one of the leading experts on seismic activity around the world, advised the Australian people to accept the inevitable and accept the loss of cetral Australia as a fact. “There is little to be gained by ignoring reality,” he said.
Offers of help continued to pour in as news of the report spread abroad. George Bush, the President of the United States, promised Australia all possible assitance. “If need be, we will use central Australia as a garbage dump for the world. Yeah! Lets fill that hole with crap! Eventually the hole will clog up! And Australia will be saved!”
However, in a taped interview on the Arab network Al-Jazeera, Al-Qaeda Leader Osama bin Ladin suggested that the hole is God’s punishment to Australia for helping America invade Iraq. He also suggested that similar holes exist in America and UK and will be found only when it is too late. “No amount of crap will save them then,” he noted.
