Can someone please tell me the health benefits of eating whole wheat as oppose to eating foods made of white flour? and why exactly is white flour bad for you?
I tried googling this…but I would still like to hear other views.
I think it depends on the type of white wheat you consume. There was just a report on the news how sourdough bread (which is made with white wheat) is actually a lot healthier than your regular whole wheat bread.
It’s actually better (and tastier) to eat whole grain as opposed to whole wheats.
**niksik…**I have already started to switch over…SLOWLY! it’s just so difficult. I tend to go back and forth though. I have heard that you get used to the taste with time…is it true?
oh and I hate eating brown rice…especially with desi foods
wow! I didnt know that white flour has absolulely no nutritional value. I guess that should be reason enough to make the switch.
Some people even bake cookies and cakes with whole wheat gags and pukes
Although, white flour is deficient in nutritional value still they contain some vitamin protien and mineral but far less than whole wheat.
In US and europe , white flour is fortified in order to enrich it with vitamins and mineral which were lost due to removing bran and other parts of wheat.
The real loss is of dietry fiber. As wheat contains very healthy ammount of dietry fiber so it is low in carbohydrates and high in protien and vitamin.
Hence it is good for your digestive system and RDA.
We eat roti / Chapati / Pratha in our daily life, which is made of Atta ( whole wheat flour). It is standard part of our life. maida is used very rarely in our house.
There is no need to go for an overkill
Cookies or cakes are baked occasionally. There is no need to change the religion. They can still be made of white flour, there is no harm. But if you are not using whole wheat in your routine then there will be problems in long run.
Switching to brown rice is also not essential , if eat whole wheat and pulses and vegetalbes. You get healthy amount of nutrition from all these sources :k:
