Where do you guys do your grocery shopping??? Every now and then we will buy stuff from whole foods which is a totally organic store. Their stuff is good but very expensive. Since we had food poisoning we are more concerned about what we eat. We went to whole foods today and i bought maybe 10 items for $75. To me that was outrageously expensive. From Shoprite i could have gotten entire week’s worth of food for less than 75.
I like shopping for my groceries at Waldbaum's (it's the closest thing to our house). Shop-rite is pretty good with prices too. We have a new Whole Foods opening in our neighborhood and and my mom's excited about buying organic food, wait till i tell her about the outrageous prices...
I don't like shopping at just any shop-rite. There is this one that opened up about 2 years ago and it is just beautiful from the inside. Everything is so clean and neat. They have an excellent seafood section. They have a starbucks inside and also a little gymboree area fro kids. All this nice atmosphere and great prices too.
I love wholefoods salads. I will not go anywhere but wholefoods for their saladbar. But everything else is way too expensive. When you know you can get a croissant at shoprite for 99cents why would you want to pay $2.00 for the same croissant at whole foods.
When you have kids you have to get them all their favorite foods and snacks and treats. I usually shop at Pavilions/Vons. I've heard that Albertsons and Trader Joe's are good places for saving money but have yet to go to those places. I look at flyers every week to see what kind of deals or sales are happening then I also get the card for the store. One thing about LA grocery stores is that they tend to have alot of 10 items for $10 sales. I've rarely gotten anything with this deal because who really eats ten cantelopes? But things like yogurt or chocolate milk are a good deal. The stores seem to compete with eachother here so there are plenty of sales. I like to take advantage of that for basic stuff like toilet paper and diapers.
I hate to put so much effort into groceries but wherever we can save it really helps. I feel like it's my responsibilty to be conservative and smart because my family relies on me.
I go to Trader Joes and love it ! But I can't seem to buy everything there. So I end up going to Albertsons also.
Mahru - Whole Foods is AWESOME !!!!!! A bit expensive but its much better to buy fresher food even if its expensive. Also, organic is good. Have u eaten at their food deli ?? Yummmm... :)
Saima anytime u see that 10 f or $10 sign just ask if u can buy less items at the same price too. I have seen that mostly those signs r just there to make ppl think they have to buy 10 items to get that price, unless it specifically gives u a different price for a single item.
Saima, I will try my hardest to keep my home free of junk food.... I want to start good eating habits in them when they're young, not stuff em wtih crap and hope that they will fix themselves when they get older like some parents i know do... grrrrrr
Hi Diva: yes, i can’t get enough of their salads and have eaten at their deli. It is delicious. I love their sushi california rolls. We love to shop there but the prices are outrageous. If i did all my grocery there, i would be spending about 5-600 dollars per month for two people and to me that is just stupidity. I don’t buy junk food in general so even by shopping at shop-rite i only buy good healthy food.
Femme, yes often these sales do have an option for buying 5 items also. Or you can still buy individual items at that sale price on rare occasions. I actually saw a woman with ten cantelopes in her cart. she was probably going to invite over all her friends if they promise to bring the cottage cheese.
Sara, I agree that healthy eating habits start early on. But when they hit 2 and just want mac & cheese everyday, sometimes you have to give in. Fries, nuggets, pasta and coke are the universal foods for all kids and all ages. What can you do?
